College World Series isn't the same as a non-playoff bowl game.

And injury costing you millions can still happen in playoff games.

They’re still playing for a championship and not in an exhibition game.

A basketball player and the NIT would be a better example.

It was a NY6, not the fricking Jimmy Kimmel Bowl, and Pitt lost because he didn’t play. When’s the last time they played in anything close to as big a bowl game as this?

Agree, any game can get you hurt. All those guys playing in college baseball have a lot to lose also, but I can’t recall any saying frick it. Baseball guys are playing multiple games increasing their chances of injury. frick these footballers. And then showing up and sitting on sideline or in the booth? Jackasses

Of course which just shows how illogical it is to opt out of other bowl games. Hell the playoff you could have 2 games, twice the risk

Do you honestly...HONESTLY...think the Duke's Mayo Bowl, and others, are on the same level as the CWS?

When guys start opting out of the playoff games, then let me know.

i bet MLB teams wished kids would opt out of the CWS playoffs.

college coaches ride their starters and relievers into the fricking ground. meat grind the frick out of their arms.

So MLB should push it.

The name of the bowl doesn’t matter. The reasoning of opting out of your last college game or games to get ready for the draft in April????? Baseball players play through the draft, or used to. Simple logic says a first round projected pitcher should opt out like the football guys. Doesn’t matter if it’s the Poulan weed eater bowl or playoffs. fricking play

The significance on the bowl(is it CFP or not) is ALL that matters.

This is a retarded comparison.

Pickets back up broke his collarbone in the second series. Would it have happened to Picket most likely not but I bet he was ok with his decision after it happened.

It’s to make sure you are healthy for draft prep. A pulled hamstring, quad strain, or ankle sprain could easily cut into draft prep and hurt combine performance.

Everyone still watched the game and it was still enjoyable regardless of who played.

Luke hochaver decided to sit out the 06 season and go to Indy ball instead of coming back to Tennessee, and became the 1st pick. Others have sat out in a similar fashion (mainly Bouras clients)

Right, but the value of a championship to any player is entirely subjective. Under the new individual > team paradigm, a player would be justified in skipping a playoff game to protect his draft status. Or if he just didn’t feel like playing in the game, or for any reason at all.

Team sports are now just a vehicle for individual gain.

Jamarcus wasn’t the first overall pick until he torched Quinn (who was considered that pick) in the Sugar.
