Barely watched him in college because I can’t syand Duke. People are comparing him to Lebron and saying he’s the closest we’ve ever seen to Lebron. But it just doesn’t seem like there’s near as much hype about him as there was for Lebron. Did I just miss it?

How good is he and how good do you think he’s going to be?

lebron's hype machine was also in part cause he was coming out of highschool so the unknown of what he can do was part of it.

zion is a bit more known having seen him play ball at duke for a year and it was phenomenal along side other stud players sharing ball.

They hype around LeBron was something else. They were broadcasting his regular season high school games on ESPN. I think before they went to 1-and-done, the idea of a player that good coming right out of high school and being THAT dominate was rare (sorry Kobe fans). Durant could have done that right out of high school as well but he had to spend a year in Austin.

Zion is one of those "can't miss" prospects. 2 things of "concern" I keep seeing is his jump shot is kind of ugly and not great (can be improved), and it looks like his weight has the potentional to become an issue if he isn't careful. Going to new orleans won't help that.

2nd biggest hype behind lebron, thats for sure. Personally i see him more as a charles barkley. Undersized power foward... But with 100x more athletic ability. Seems like a good kid who loves the game and has fun. Will be an exciting player, hilight reel for dunks every game.. and exciting for new orleans basketball fans

Why do people say this?
You just need to be disciplined and realize that (and I think Zion will be)

Even the guy goes to Memphis he’s gonna eat a ton of BBQ, in NY he would eat a ton of everything
shite even if he was in a city like Milwaukee he’d beat eating a ton of those cheese curd things, and if he didn’t like them, probably switch over to a bunch of fast food, if he wasn’t disciplined

Good players do that. It’s why I think if he doesn’t change a guy like Embiid could be fricked

Why fill you in if you don't care to watch in the first place?

They hype around Lebron was that he was the second coming of Magic Johnson. A 6'8 guy who could just as easily play PG and he could bang in the post. Since that time, over 15 years later, we've seen more guys with that skill set come into the NBA. But in 2003 it was still rare.

The hype around Zion is due to his incredible athletic ability for a massive human being. There really is no true comp for Zion. He's built like a NFL defensive end, but has the quickness and explosive leaping ability of the most gifted NBA players. He's basically JJ Watt with the leaping ability of Vince Carter

Gotcha.
Because I’ve actually talked to people who’ve legit thought that.

Well i guess it was more of the Booger McFarland meme going around

His physique is his identity.
He has great leaping ability and he is 285 lbs and just 6' 7".

He can provide help defense. Excellent rebounder. Dunks.

For now that's it.
I and 1000 other guys who practiced could shoot much better as teenagers.

Ft % under 70.
3 pt % under 34.

You are getting Dennis rodman with potential for improved shooting. His 3 pt shooting although mediocre, improved over his one season in college.

Ja morant was his point guard in AAU. What he offered about that time is telling. Zion: Just about dunks.

Being Dennis rodman:
Led NBA in rebounding many times. A force to be reckoned with.

Honestly the player I would use to describe Zion is Shaq. Shaq’s The only player I can remember that could control the game with his physical tools the way Zion can. Zion is 6 inches shorter but he’s a better athlete and is a much more skilled player. They’re not that similar but if I had to compare him to someone it would be Shaq.

From day one, he’ll have a personal chef and a nutritionist. You think he’s going to be doing lunch at Crabby Jacks every day?

People are dumb. Zion is one of the most overrated players ever. If that Duke team were as loaded as claimed, they would have won it all easily. Zion will never be in the same galaxy, metaphorically speaking, as Lebron. Might achieve Elton Brand level success or maybe even Carlos Boozer.

In terms of hype not in terms of player. Very different player. He is completely unique sort of like Lebron was. There are no true NBA comps. The best I can think of is a combination of Barkley and Blake Griffin (not saying he will be as good as either, just comparison), but even that isn't truly accurate.

Uh...yeah.

Did you see how much tickets were going to that first UNC/Duke game? fricking Obama and celebrities were there. It was absurd. ESPN has been on daily Zion coverage for months.

His ceiling is insane. His athleticism combined with his skillset and his frame are like nothing we have seen.

He needs to develop a jump shot. His handles, passing, and defensive ability are already amazing.
