You probably have trouble following it.

I have really enjoyed this WC personally

This World Cup has been more entertaining and more enjoyable to watch than the LSU 2026 baseball season

Three pages in and so far, no legit comments from the people who like watching soccer explaining why they like it and what the nuances of the sport are? Mostly just a bunch of ad hominems and zero intellectual effort hate or simply that they like it but don't explain why. I know baseball can seem very boring to someone who doesn't understand the nuances of roster building and managment over the course of a season, a game, a series, and a tournament.
It's a legit question. For all of you "enlightened' world sports fans, why not try to actually explain to the rest of us what it so compelling about the sport so that others who may be struggling to get into it may have an easier time making that transitionn.

I’ve come to the conclusion that this sport needs to be discontinued in this country. We’ll never be good at it due to the four major ones we have, and the rest of the world despises us more than ever (well deserved, though). So, cut the losses and move on.

I've enjoyed the tournament but still wish soccer would find a way to open up the game more like the NFL did in the 1970s with tightening how receivers could be played and the NBA with illegal defense and hand checking.

No worries. It'll be over soon and won't be back for 4 years.

I enjoy the structure of the running clock and a shorter game.
I enjoy shootouts.
I enjoy when they play a man down because someone did something stupid.
I enjoy when they penalize flopping.
I enjoy the anticipation on a corner kick or moving into the box.
I enjoy the passion of the fans and players.
I enjoy watching the skill as I can hit a baseball, catch a football, etc. but running full speed controlling a ball with my feet is lost on me.
I enjoy only paying attention once every four years.
I enjoy routing for a team but not really caring if they lose.
I enjoy watching a 5’7” 170lbs man being able to be the world’s greatest.

Now we're getting somewhere. More of these and you may convince some of us knuckle draggers to join you.

Not a huge soccer guy but if you thought Mexico-England or Argentina-Cape Verde was boring, I don't know what to tell you.

Not enough commercials and people just standing around

It's a more fluid sport. It often takes less than two hours to play a 90 minute game. I love our football, but it's very stop/start. Taking over 3 hours to play a 60 minute game with less than a quarter of actual action can be a chore.
As far as scoring, it's called a "goal" for a reason. It's supposed to be a difficult achievement for a team to work toward. It's not meant to be a given. That's why the fans go ballistic when one is scored.
Speaking of fans, most soccer clubs around the world were founded as true community clubs. It was a game of the working class, so they have unique and interesting histories and cultures going back over a century. They weren't just gifted an expansion franchise one day. Their older stadiums are also revered as much as the classic college football and baseball stadiums in this country, so the atmospheres look and sound awesome.
Also, the pyramid system with promotion/relegation can make random games meaningful and intense. When two of the biggest clubs in London (Spurs and West Ham) were scrapping just to finish in 17th place and stay in the Premier League this year, it was as compelling as the title race.

I understand finding the game random and thus boring. It is tactical though and managers have to shape their philosophy to players and vice versa just like football. More attacking styles send defenders into the attacking areas via overlapping runs and vs conservative styles trying to beat those moves with quick counters. The world cup has a great mix and it's fun watching how they fair.
Player development and off seasons are different and interesting to learn about. Academies, transfer markets, players going out on loan. There's so many leagues in so many countries it's like a recruiting/off-season fan's dream amount of news to go through.
That makes for some great storylines, especially come international time when league rivals either join forces or best teammates face off. This isn't unique to soccer but happens a lot due to the breadth of the game.
Admittedly is a pretty laid back watch most of the time and today's game is a lot of working it up though the back but there's still great plays through the air and a ton of late drama.
The worst part for me is the players looking like they got sniped when they go down. I believe it hurts but it's ridiculous.

So not really the same.

The World Cup is an amazing tournament. We don't have it on home soil many times. Having visitors from all over the world come here and see the way Americans really are, and the true beauty of our country, has been a lot of fun.
On the pitch, we were seeing Ronaldo and Messi's last world cups, which are watershed moments. We've seen Cabo Verde be a Cinderella team, Argentina pull wins out of their arse, the Balgoun drama, Norway and Scotland winning hearts, packed stadiums with incredible atmospheres. I understand tuning out once this ends. But this is the greatest sporting spectacle on Earth.
