Mariano Rivera once got a win in a game without throwing a pitch. He went in with 2 outs with a runner at first and picked him off without ever pitching a ball. Yankees scored in the bottom of the inning earning him the W.

One of my ex wife’s cousins played against Don Mattingly in HS football in Evansville Indiana. He says that Mattingly, playing QB, would throw one pass right handed, and the next pass left handed. He was truly ambidextrous.

Carmelo Anthony won Rookie of the Month every month of his rookie year and still lost out on the Rookie of the Year award.

As it stands, Rookie of the Month is a conference award and LeBron, who would eventually win the Rookie of the Year award, won it every month as well.

An early field painted in a "gridiron" configuration.

Attempting to “open up” the game and reduce its “brutality,” football rules were modified in 1906 to allow the forward pass. The new rule stipulated, however, that a forward pass could not cross the line of scrimmage within five yards of either side of the center. To assist game officials, the field was marked off in a 5-yard by 5-yard grid. Historians believe that the term “gridiron” was a result.

Herman Johnson, now 40, was the largest baby ever born in the state of Louisiana.

Trindon Holiday, now 39, also ran track and in 2009 ran a 10.00 100 meter dash.

Chad Jones, now 37, was a star safety but also played on the 2009 LSU baseball team that won a championship.

None of these things have ever been publicly acknowledged.

Lacrosse is the oldest sport in the United States with its origins in indigenous American Indians more than 1000 years before European contact. They sometimes had hundreds of players playing for days.

Joey Votto could come out of retirement and go 0 for 477 and still have a higher on base percentage than Tony Gwynn.

This kind of blows my mind.

Dave Marcis won the 1982 Richmond 400 using an engine that he built himself. This was the last time a winning driver built the race winning engine.
