Formula One is closing in on a deal to bring a street race to downtown Miami, which could stage a grand prix as early as October 2019.
The City of Miami Commission is due to vote on F1's proposal on May 10 and its approval will see preparations get underway for a grand prix next season.
F1's American owners, Liberty Media, have been keen to secure an extra race on home soil since taking control of the sport last year, and so far the Miami bid is the most advanced.
"Earlier today the City of Miami Commission took an important step by adding an item to their upcoming agenda, that if approved, will make way to bring Formula One to downtown Miami next season," F1's managing director of commercial operations Sean Bratches said. "We appreciate the community's interest in hosting a Formula One race and look forward to working with local officials and stakeholders to bring this vision to life.
"With over half a billion fans worldwide, Formula One is the greatest racing spectacle on the planet, and Miami's status as one of the world's most iconic and glamourous cities, combined with its robust tourism infrastructure, makes Miami the perfect destination for Formula One and its fans."

If the Miami circuit can be half as fun as the street circuit at Baku, we have a winner in our hands.

Coming September 2019: notification to all local law enforcement, first responders, and hospital staff to be on the look out for human trafficking.
(Based on what my uncle told me before F1 returned to Austin a few years back.)

Not F1 but would be neat to have something like this again.

I would love to see F1 become a annual event in the U.S. but, it has never been supported adequately to succeed here. I think the auto racing fans in the U.S. are not familiar with F1 and will not have enough interest to lure sponsorships that would be required to fund F1 in this country.

F1 has been going to Austin for years, Idk if they’ll keep the Austin race but I think this Miami won’t have any trouble getting butts in seats.

We're pretty close to making 2 Fast, 2 Furious reality.

USGP needs to return to Watkins Glen, it's traditional home, at least as part of a rotation. Open up the entire long course, and turn 'em loose. Road America would be a good choice, too.

Watkins Glen would be great. Road America seems a little boring to me and I think it's too far in the middle of nowhere for F1.
They tried last year to get Long Beach to switch back but couldn't make it work.
Miami at night would be pretty cool provided they can find the right combination of streets. Adding another Monaco, without the prestige, would be pointless.

You might want to Czechoslovakia before you Wreckyoslovakia.
There is an annual USGP on the F1 calendar in Austin.
There is nothing inadequate about the level of support for Formula One in this country.

I remember being a little kid sitting on the second floor of my dad’s office on magazine hanging out the window watching the cars fly by, it was awesome...
Grand Prix Du Marissa Gras 1991 - Nola
Grand Prix du Mardi Gras - 1992
I wonder who thought it would be a good idea to race in NOLA in mid summer? - if you skip to near the end of the 1991 race, - the drivers & teams were not prepared for the humidity turning the track into an ice skating rink...

Up until the last few years in Austin, there was no F1 race in the U.S. for 22 of the last 37 years. The stated reason was a lack of financial support.

Bring it over to road America!!!!
Just a two hour hike north

I think you're just missing a lot of years when it wasn't called the US Grand Prix. The only real gaps were from 1992-1999 & 2008-2011. Which is only 12 years. Leaving Indianapolis didn't have anything to do with lack of financial support and Bernie tried for years to get another US Grand Prix going during both breaks.
The US Grand Prix has been held from
1958-1980, 1989-1991, 2000-2007, and 2012-Present
The US Grand Prix West was held from
1976-1983
The Detroit Grand Prix was held from
1982-1988
The Dallas Grand Prix was held in
1984
The Caesars Palace Grand Prix was held from
1981-1982

Here's the proposed layout. The two "straights" look to be about 1KM. Which would be among some of the longer straights on the calendar.
It looks a little less technical than Baku's Castle section but could make for a fun race anyway.
