He played with Weber for a year at OSU and was his "mentor" on the field. He probably legit does want him to do well.
Weber, when not dinged up, was a pretty good college RB

Ezekiel Elliott
Dude has ZERO leverage here. What a moron.

Local media in Dallas are saying Jerry and co are a little taken a back because apparently they have bailed Zeke out of numerous shite storms over the past few years and he does this to them.
This is my take. and it's not like Zeke is grossly underpaid and he has two years left on his deal (three, if he doesn't report today). The Cowboys have bent over backwards for this guy and he has continually been a knucklehead off the field. Sure, he's a great player, but he's never there for a full 16 games due to his own actions. And he plays at a position where it's easy to find a replacement.
Also, I know its Memphis, but Tony Pollard was sort of awesome in college. With that much money invested in your line, Pollard should be able to produce behind them.
Zeke has no leverage, and he can't really appeal to the fans, who will likely take the Cowboys side thanks to his own stupidity. Dak, on the other hand, needs to get paid and is grossly underpaid. Amari is working out and needs a new deal. Zeke needs to move to the back of the line. He just isn't as high of a priority as those guys.

Zeke has no leverage,
This is not entirely true. I too thought this, but it isn’t the case.

The date Aug. 6 has been bandied about as when he needs to report. But I'm not so sure that's accurate. It is true that if Elliott doesn't report to the Cowboys by Aug. 6 then he can't get an accrued season, but in examining the CBA and talking with Corry, I don't think it matters.
Elliott has three accrued seasons. He needs one more year to be eligible for unrestricted free agency. But he's actually helped by the fifth-year option: the Cowboys have already guaranteed his fourth accrued season in 2020 several years in advance.
quote:
If Zeke skipped eight or nine games in 2019, he would likely ensure his contract did not toll and while he might not get an accrued season in 2019, he would head into 2020 needing just one more year to get that four years. The Cowboys could stop him from accruing that season by negating his fifth-year option -- it's guaranteed for performance only -- but that would involve cutting him, thereby making him immediately an unrestricted free agent.
It's a sneaky piece of leverage for Elliott, even though he would simply find himself in roughly the same spot Gordon is now next year at this time.

Im sure they won't fine him though.
But even still 40k a day, 1.2mil a month
I believe training camp is limited to 18 days, but if he misses a preseason game that's at least 100K. Melvin Gordan would lose $425,000 for each preseason game he misses.

I would hold out if I were Zeke. The leverage he has is tied to Dallas being a Superbowl contender. Without him the cowgirls would be 8-8. RB shelf life is 3.5 yrs and he has out performed his contract.

No such thing. Where the hell did this concept come from? "Coach, I was really going to give 100% this game, but I'm only being paid x amount. So I dogged it 20 out of 50 plays. Sorry for the loss."
You sign a contract you honor it. What if you underperformed per your contract? Can an organization withhold funds?

What a damn idiot. Did he not see how it ended up costing Bell money?

The guy with a 52 million dollar contract?

1.) his current deal is a rookie deal that he hardly had any say on how it was structured. The contracts are pretty much set before you’re drafted based on draft position
2.) the organization can cut him anytime he isn’t performing. Spare me the “honor your contract” shite

Yes he got a big contract. Breaking it down he lost money plus a year in his prime.

Depends on how much you value the risk of another year of 300 plus carries and possible injury.
Touches take a toll on RBs more than a year of age does.

The cowboys are nothing without Zeke.
The talking heads saying he should be 3rd in line after Dak and Cooper are crazy. Their passing game requires an elite running back.

At least in Bell’s situation there is a valid argument. Disagree or not, it makes sense why an RB as good as he is wouldn’t want to play a second year under the tag.
What Elliott is doing just doesn’t make sense at all. He can’t go anywhere for the next two years and even after that, he won’t have enough years accrued to be a UFA.
I have no idea what his end game here is other than to pray that the cowboys were planning to extend him all along and aren’t so pissed about this that they say screw it and call his bluff.

Really wanna see how this plays out come regular season. As stupid as Zeke is off the field (I believe he was totally innocent of the DV charge that got him suspended without evidence though), it’s demonstrably clear that he and the offensive line run shite for that organization in terms of enabling Dak to be an effective qb and other things. HOWEVER, running backs grow on trees basically in the NFL therefore they generally don’t make the big bucks. I have faith in Jerry, know he’ll handle this the right way in terms of the compensation and all.

Hardly any.
He’s going through his penalty by getting fined for the hold out so not sure your point.
