This also reads as step 1 of ESPN wanting to fully pull away from cable and streaming and keeping all revenue in house with ESPN family of networks being exlusive to this app/service.

You have to spend $100 a month just to watch big sporting events

Or you can just go outside and not have to watch every single event

New $30 service includes all live events on ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, and SEC Network (basically a cheaper alternative than YoutubeTV or Sling if you just want live ESPN)

so that means I can pay for just ESPN and not need a subscription to a TV provider to get the games?

Yeah but if you don’t have an antenna, you won’t have access to FOX, NBC, or CBS

-ESPN+ can still be bought separately (so no one will be forced to buy the new option)

That's good to hear.

We have YoutubeTV, HBO, Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Prime, Netflix, AppleTV+, and we recently added Paramount+ to watch Mobland

I'm hoping uou bundled hulu/espn/disney because, if you don't, you're wasting a lot of money each month. The bundle is like 19.99/mo.

All of that is still cheaper than my last cable subscription.

you sure?

yotube - 82.99
hbo - 16.99
netflix - 17.99
prime - 14.99
apple tv - 9.99
paramount - 12.99
assuming you bundle espn/hulu/disney - 19.99
q2

That's $175/month not even including your internet costs. Unless you didn't know how to get good rates for cable TV (which is possible), I don't think you're saving money with all those subs

Just in time for them to promote as they are about to lose UFC rights, which was the only thing holding up their entire ESPN+ ecosystem.

I'm sure this announcement is just a coincidence...

See, this is all I ever wanted out of YouTube TV. Give me the locals and ESPN network so I can watch whatever games I want without all the unnecessary channels. As much as I despise Disney, I'll gladly save myself $500/year by not having my "TV" subscription service anymore.

The problem I have is that I still want TNT, TBS, NFL Network, FS1, so I’ll probably just stick with YouTube TV. The app with ESPN, Turner, and Fox is the one I’m interested in. What happened to that?

I may be an idiot here but how is this different than the current iteration from espn+?

“Plus” has all college live events on SEC and ACC plus you can watch the games airing on their family of networks.

This just reads like a price hike for “plus”? What am I missing ?

ESPN+ is just the games that aren't big enough to air on ESPN's national broadcast channels.

If you want to stream a game that's on ESPN, ESPN 2, SEC Network, etc....then you would have to login to the ESPN app with your cable provider credentials and have ESPN in your cable package.

This new offering would give you the option to get the package of all the main ESPN cable channels without a cable package. Basically you're subscribing to those channels directly from ESPN and cutting out the middle man (cable company).

You might save money by just hanging out at a local sports bar every weekend and keeping the tab around $50.

Find a guy that will sell you the android box as well a month /annual subscription..

Android box $60-120 one time payment.

Annual subscription $120 and ive got every channel in the United States / Canada plus international and video on demand. Can't be beat.

I have fiber that is $75.

My last cable bill that led to me cutting cable was roughly $250, and that was ~10 years ago.

The thing is, even if I had standard cable, I would still have Netflix, Prime, etc… because those show things that standard cable doesn’t. If we’re comparing streaming to cable, the real comparison is YoutubeTV + HBO vs the cost of cable.

I currently pay $9.42 a month for ESPN in my cable company package.

I pretty much stayed the course with my boomer cable because I could never really figure out what streaming services to commit to.

I like the Roku Ultra. That is basically the way to go. I do not care for most Sports nowadays. I used it basically to watch movies and shows that are worth watching. I download free streaming programs like Tubi. It is one of the better streaming services that is free. You can add programs for a price with those you like and it will be cheaper than cable by far. Roku Ultra is the real deal. One time buy for the device and then you add some streaming services. And it is still cheaper than cable. Don't need to get them all or many just pick a few that you watch the most. You got to remember that cable is ripping people off big time.
