EDIT - Read the texts. Definitely a false accusation

I'm glad you edited quickly because this response was going to be longer.

Inviting someone to your house and going out to dinner isn't just being a coworker.

I don’t want to live in a world that has made “inappropriate behavior” between coworkers a major offense that could cost people their jobs.

It's scary and irresponsible how they clipped out every bit of context of the messages in order to paint the picture they wanted to paint of the story

Lol at the let’s be Ninjas for Jesus.

Also the shirtless comment was Bucci cooking saying he should rub oil on him like the Tongan flag carrier in the Olympics opening ceremony

ESPNs Matthew Berry & John Buccigross Accused of Inappropriate Behavior

Matthew Berry has that sort of creepster vibe sometimes. And I say that as somebody who hates when people overuse "creepy."

I kinda hate Buccigross though, so frick him.

ETA: Saw the texts from ESPN. That all seemed overly innocent and mutual interest by both parties involved. If that is pretty much the entirety of the text conversation (and it's clearly not everything since there are things missing), then these accusations are a pretty solid stretch at best. I still hate Buccigross, but this is not harassment. At all really. And she should be ashamed for making claims as such.

So now every lame arse, cringey text by a dude hitting on a girl is inappropriate behavior/sexual harassment?

in a workplace setting? pretty much

this isn't just random flirting or anything (due to power/position dynamics) and this kind of standard isn't new

Based on the text messages I would say she was pursuing him more than he was going after her

I get her feeling uncomfortable because she may have just seen her and Bucci as friends, but if she never tells him that than he’s going to try and act like a normal (well, kinda normal ) person who is in a relationship and be flirty. You can’t be mad at him for being awkward about it.

Entirely unfair of the Globe to publish that without doing research and if I’m Bucci I at least look into slander charges so they don’t do that same thing to anyone else.

i posted that before getting to the link with the texts

and yeah this is probably not even workplace sexual harassment. it's clear they had a personal relationship and it's almost assuredly not sexual harassment (in terms of the EEOC). here is the EEOC discussing the generalities of harassment

quote:

It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature.

quote:

Although the law doesn’t prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that are not very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).

Goodness, the #longlegs was in reference to himself and the Globe treats it like harassment

Maybe it was just me but it felt like she pursued him, they went on a date, she pursued more and then he sent back some very light flirty texts which she never drew a line with

Bucci is divorced as well so you can't even get on him for being sleazy with his wife or something like that

I wonder how much ESPN cherry picked with those texts...I'm starting to wonder that wasn't the extent of their texting relationship

Even so, I still don't see why it's a huge deal. It sounds like they hung out and went on some dates. If he sent some explicit photos, would that have been cause for concern? If she was trying to get out or made it clear she didn't want any part of it, then I could see it being an issue, but it appears she initiated some of the convos

Those were the messages that the globe quoted in their story. ESPN put context around the quote that the globe was using as their pitch fork argument

It's an easy assumption to make that of those were the quotes that the globe used in its hit piece, that those were the worse messages they could find in the conversation
