ESPN obsession with NY/Lakers

They are trying to tell us that every single NBA player is narrowing his choices to either the Knicks or Lakers.
And when someone signs, its "X Player mulled an offer from NY and LA"!
They just HAVE to talk about them. When no one wants to sign with either. Its not 1985 anymore.

Two biggest media markets, but yea it's annoying.

Who is exactly narrowing down to Knicks/Lakers?
There is simply shock that the best FA's are going to those type of markets.
These days, situation >>>>>>>>>>market.

That's kinda the point which is why it's a big basketball story.

It was just said on Sportcenter that DeAndre Jordon declined offers from both NY and the Lakers.
When I havent heard anything but Mavs/Clippers.
Basically watch their report on any FA...they will mention lakers and Knicks for everyone!

David Stern jokingly answered " Lakers v Knicks" one random season when asked about who he would like to see in the NBA finals. Ratings.
That being said I think the " no one wants to sign with them"( especially the Lakers) post 1985 is nonsense.
Shaq says hello.
If anything when it comes to the Lakers some seem to be intimidated about being the "next" Wilt, Magic, Kobe ,Shaq, Kareem, West,Worthy,Baylor,etc....
Before Bynum started a full season the Kareem,Wilt,Shaq ,Mikan talk began.
If you are intimidated by Lakers history / expectations it means you probably aren't the right fit anyway

The Knicks have to the greatest inequality ratio of success to media coverage ever. This franchise has rarely been relevant as of late, but they still get treated as if they are one of the greatest franchises in sports.

The Jets. Before the glory days of Mark Sanchez the Jets had won 6 playoff games since Namath's super bowl. The Knicks were at least something through the 80's and 90's.

He had meetings with both of them.
Y'all do know you don't have to watch ESPN right?

I honestly think players don't want to put up with Kobe's shite with the Lakers. And Byron Scott had never been really impressive as a coach.

Ain't all that many Shaq like free agents since last week either.
I think the Op & Lakers haters are under some assumption that the Lakers have ' purchased free agents / rings.
Drafted : West, Baylor, Goodrich,Magic,Worthy & many role players.
Traded for: Kareem,Wilt,Kobe,Gasol,Wilkes,etc....
The Op is under the impression that the Lakers have only built great teams through the relatively new free agency.
Besides Shaq that is untrue.
Lakers have been a greatly managed organization with great trades / draft picks.
They are trying to figure out this salary cap/ free agency as well.
Besides Shaq name me the great players the evil Lakers have purchased/ seduced in free agency?
Not many. Its was great management.

Considering how attractive NY is for free agents it's even more hilarious how big of a train wreck the Knicks have been

Lets relive the glory as it will surely go down in the anals of sports history.

REAL basketball fans know the only thing that matters is who signs with LeBron's team.

Well yeah but that wasn't why Shaq or 1996 was brought up.
