NBC should hire Ryen and put his show after Patrick's. There would be nothing close.

That would be good. But Ryen strength is NBA and NBC has 0 footprint in that sport

That's all Patrick is covering right now. I'm not even a big fan of the NBA but Russillo and Patrick's shows are so good I still listen.

e which is not just an ESPN issue

nope but its a bigger issue for them when they relied so heavily on being subsidized, they're the most expensive non premium channel on your bill. They paid out the arse for rights with the hopes/belief of passing that on to providers and subscribers

What could ESPN do to make you re-up your cable subscription? ETA: Honestly curious. Not trying to flame or troll.

As a cordcutter myself, I can't think of anything. The service they provide is outdated and even if they changed things, it wouldn't be enough to re-up. I can get more of whatever sport I'm interested in (MLB, MMA, NFL, whatever) through other methods.

Exactly. Cable TV is mostly done. It will take a while for the subscriber numbers to really fall off, and there will be stragglers for a long time, but the glory days of cable are over.

People are starting to realize what it costs them, and that it's not really worth it. A big part of it is the ESPN bubble, which it seems is finally popping, so maybe cable TV rates will start to drop.

Another big part of it is that Netflix, Amazon, HBO and others are putting out high quality content for reasonable fees. We never really noticed how bad network shows have gotten until we started watching original shows from the streaming services. They don't have to write interruptions and mini-cliffhangers into the story for commercial breaks. They don't have to change their language or plot points based on input from advertisers. They don't have to fit episodes into nice and neat 44 minute time slots. There is a lot more creative freedom, and it very often shows in the quality of the content.

Russillo has to leave. The writing is on the wall. Reduced role? That just means he's the next to go.

I know Fox Sports sucks. But if he went there, people would actually listen. That dude moves the needle.

Or he and Danny can go to Barstool.

I'm very surprised about Kanell.

Yeah I don't get it. He and Russilo had to be their most popular radio show, right?

I wouldn't be too surprised if the do away with ryen and kannell. First step was moving the show on XM to Espn extra instead of the main Espn channel a few months ago (to have Stephen A Smith scream).

Wait is Russillo and Kanell no more?!?!? Wherever you go, Russillo, I will follow.

Russillo is great. I just don't know how this board turned from hating Kanell's douchey arse like I do, to Kanell being a champion here for some reason. I quit listening once they announced he was going to be the host.

Kanell always brought out the worst in Russillo. He needs to be paired with the nice funny guy like SVP or Virk to work best.

Yeah I had to stop after the opening segment. Adnan is struggling. Now he gotta do 2.5 hours by himself

Didn't he just sign a new contract though?

Moving RK in favor of Smith is just a sign at awful management.

It's a confluence of factors. Content for a casual sports fan has diminished rapidly in terms of quality. One of the main issues in that is the SJW nonsense, bottom line. 70% of white males voted for Trump. NFL witnessed severe declines the past couple of years, while MLB ratings are stable or growing. It's not that hard to pick out what's going on there.

Yes, there are multiple factors. Attributing it exclusively to politics is narrow-minded, but so is not acknowledging this as a primary reason.

Because most of us have Danny time and chance to find himself, which he did in the past year
