They're in a very tough spot. They've invested a lot in what I'm sure they know is a failing, horrendous product.
Yet, if they cut ties like I'm sure they've considered, the SJW crowd will immediately label them "sexist" and cause a social media firestorm.
ESPN should have never gotten involved in the WNBA in the first place, but they've made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

More annoying is mixing men's and women's CBB scores into one grouping. But I agree with you, all bs.

So now we are complaining about ESPN covering sports?
Posted on 7/3/22 at 4:20 pm to SirWinston
ESPN is trying so hard to make that league seem relevant
Posted on 7/3/22 at 4:38 pm to SirWinston
So what exactly are you crying about?

Espn is doing something similar with womens soccer but more deceitfully…
For example, on their soccer site they would post a headline stating ‘Barcelona signs ‘player x’ without failing to mention that they are referring to Barcelona’s women team…knowing good and well that people would only click on the link assuming it’s the mens barca team that is the subject (which is the only Barca people care about).
It’s f******** embarrassing that they have to resort to sneaky tactics to generate clicks for their womens sports content.

Must be a slow day. This is really a thread...

I still get ESPN updates in my social media. Half their posts these days are WNBA. MANY MANY more WNBA posts than MLB posts, for example. And just so you know, their WNBA posts get thousands of responses, but about 3/4 of them are “nobody cares” or “muh SJW agenda.” It’s kinda like the MSB, now that I think about.
You’ve got to be the biggest pussy to ever grace the MSB

They have sunk 25 years into trying to make a go cart into a race car, and are pushed to keep doing it if they want to keep their NBA partners happy.
Its dumb, its annoying, but expecting it to change is not far different. It is what it is.

The television ratings for a recent WNBA game did less than 5,000 viewers lol
Yes… less than five thousand viewers, nationwide, and on a major broadcast channel. (and half of that was likely sports bars who always have that channel on their screens)
It’s safe to say that the WNBA has been a failed business for 25 years, that never turns a profit, and is only alive because of the NBA’s charitable contributions (aka paying all of their bills).

Considering ESPN shows WNBA games they have a reason to try and promote it.

15 people downvoted this thread. Incredible

I consider myself an avid sports fan and I don’t think I could name one current player

I’m sure it’s a low cost check the box type thing where it costs them hardly anything to post it and they get to deter any negative pub about not pushing womens sports.

There ain't shite on and they have the rights, so of course they're gonna promote it. I'm sure it's part of whatever deal they have with the NBA.
I'm not gonna watch it, but I'm not going to watch cornhole or "Chase tag" either, both of which I've noticed airing on ESPN in the last week.

Have to push something when their cash cow college football goes down due to them pushing NIL for 10 years for whatever reason

Yes, all the people who claim not to.
I honestly haven’t visited the ESPN website in two years. Now I’ll go to CBSsports or FoxSports daily.
