One of my good friends is a pro-Hearthstone player. I have no clue how the game works at all, but he streams, competes in tournaments and signed with a team earlier this year.

He told me the other day he's pretty much on schedule to make $45K this year at age 24 and he's not even a very popular player at this point.

This would probably get a lot better ratings than WNBA and women's softball.

If people want to get old school and talk about hard work and commitment these guys fricking exemplify hard work. Their practice schedules during the season are often 12-16 hours of a day of combined scrimmages, other practice, and solo play (for extra cash).

They grind out a lot more hours than professional athletes. Obviously you can't play football for that many hours per day, but the commitment these guys have to making a living from this game is insane. I know that kind of a schedule would drive me crazy.

Goldeneye? Son, call me on a rotary phone when you find the gold bar in pitfall. A man's game with an old school joystick

I'd take about a $10K paycut in a heartbeat to sit at home all day and play a video game that I enjoy than sit in an office.

The kid Faker that was being discussed is 21 and has over 3 million dollars in lifetime earnings. This is only the beginning of mainstream esports.

CS:GO starts Friday night on TBS and is broadcasted live. CS is a much more easier game to follow and could capture the common fan a lot easier than League. League really requires an understanding and has a very big learning curve.

Not sure if serious. Good for them if they are making solid money, though.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is very real. And the league thinks they can just whitewash it away. I don't know if I'd let my son play with all we know now

I wasn't paying attention and goofed the hours a bit. If you don't think these guys work hard, you are just flat wrong. Playing this game at a high level for that many hours a day is an insane amount of mental concentration and focus. Much moreso than 99% of the jobs in this world.

I have seen 500k people just watching CS: GO

Much much higher. They hit 1.2 million concurrent viewers when they held that CSGO major in Ohio (MLG Comlumbus). Part of this was driven by 2 NA teams making it to the semi-finals.

I look forward to Jemel Hill's commentary that there's not enough African Americans playing League of Legends.
