Former Cy Young closer Eric Gagne alleges in his new biography that 80 percent of his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates were using performance-enhancing drugs.

Gagne, who set a major league record while converting 84 consecutive save chances, admits that he used human growth hormone over five cycles in a three-year period toward the end of his career.

"It was sufficient to ruin my health, tarnish my reputation and throw a shadow over the extraordinary performances of my career," Gagne says in the French-language book, titled, "Game Over: The Story of Eric Gagne."

I doubt it. I would bet it was that high. When I was in high school I knew a ton of people on the football and baseball team that were on steroids and still passed the "random" drugs tests. I can't even imagine how easy it would have been for a pro athelte making millions of dollars to get his hands on some PEDs.

Gagne is Canadian. By default, I don't believe anything he says.

This will sound ridiculous, but they never should have banned greenies. They created the need for greenies when they created the baseball schedule

If I was in the minors for a fear years and couldn't get over the hump, there's no way I wouldn't consider juicing up if it gave me a chance to get to the league.

I think that by this point we pretty much assume that 90% of MLB players are on something and no one really gives a flying crap anymore.

Has Gagne had health problems since he's retired?

I can see your point here. 162 games is just brutal on your body. add to that the mental grind of travel, living out of a suitcase every other week, the pressure of performing and keeping your job for most guys and I can see how substances are needed to keep you sharp and give you the edge for every night's game.

I have long advocated for a shortened season especially since the playoffs are being expanded. The 162 game season made somewhat sense when it was only one round of playoffs and the WS...clearly the four best teams were identified.

Now with like 16 teams or some such getting in, and a much longer post season, I see no reason to have a 162 games season. I think they could cut somewhere between 24-32 games out. Start the season at the same time and end it earlier. there is no need to have playoff games in freezing cold cities in november.

Ha.

More like the ones who get caught have nothing to lose so they stop protecting the sport like all the others....who either don't know or don't want to know.

Cheaters know the truth. Canseco was the lone voice of reason when the whole PED thing was first being discussed and he was ridiculed and ripped by everyone as a liar.
