I think you may want to employ different alliteration in this instance.

Maybe just do it and not announce it to the world

The son of a high profile athlete is transgender. It’s gonna get leaked somehow.

The family makes the announcement to control the narrative.

If they don’t, some sleazy online website breaks the news and adds some type of spin about how sad Dwayne is, or how homophobic Gabrielle union is, etc.

Or you don’t let your son wear dresses and no one knows.

Probably a few high profile people telling them they are ok and should be happy.

Idk.

I find it quite interesting that between MSB & OT we have had so many threads on this. It's almost like some of you were banking on him hating his child or something.

Or you accept your child for who they are and try to answer questions/be there the best you can.

Wade & Magic Johnson are probably the two more well respected figures in their sport and this situation with their sons doesn't seem to bother them publicly.

Do a little background on wade before his child (is identified the right word?), and you will find he has constantly made an effort to use his platform and find more platforms to promote what he believes will make the world a better place. That’s all he is doing here. You may think he’s parading his child around.. but if he changes one parents relationship with his child who identified he did his job. I find that honorable. What about all the other parents who will now have to deal with their own kids thinking they are transgender because the media, by way of Wade, brainwashed them into thinking its cool and socially acceptable?

Right. Let your kids make their own decisions. If they want to eat cake for every meal, stick crayons up their nose and jab things in electrical outlets than so be it. Respect their decisions and don’t question it. If your 11yo old wants to wear a dress and pretend he’s a girl dont dissuade him. Encourage it. Young kids know what’s best for themselves and in the long run it’s going to work out just fine. Just you wait and see

And what's up with all of these NBA legends having gay kids: Magic, Isiah Thomas, Jordan, and now Wade.

My best guess is they don't want to live under the legacy of trying to be like dad. Everyone probably expects them to play basketball and to be just as good as dad. In order to avoid those expectations of living in dad's shadow, they become girls. That way they can live their life without ever even touching a basketball.

i mean this is probably not it but this is just my mind attempting to make sense of things.

I understand wanting to love and support your child. But that does not mean giving them whatever they like.

At 12, you are not allowed to vote, buy alcohol, buy tobacco, consent to sex, enlist in military, drop out of school, drive, be charged as an adult for a crime, get married, etc.

So why then is it perfectly acceptable for a 12 year old to determine they want to be another gender. Which is a huge life-altering decision.

Hell, at 12 I swore up and down I was gonna marry this girl, whom barely even knew I existed at the time. Fast forward 15 years later, I am happily married, but I haven't talked to or even heard of that girl in over 10 years. Breaking news here, 12 year olds are not the best decision makers.

His son thinks he’s a woman. It’s not the same thing as being gay. The kid needs psychiatric help.

There is a big difference between loving your kids in their struggles...... And allowing them to identify as something they clearly are not.

So if I decided to identify tomorrow as Michael Jordans son, does that make me an heir to him? Nope because in reality I'm not his son. It's really that simple.

It’s really great when you put it like that, or in terms of something else and listen to them tell you how wrong you are

It now makes more sense to me as to why D Wade made this public. He has a documentary called, D Wade:Life Unexpected, making its debut on ESPN Feb 23rd. Not even the biggest Wade can ignore the fact Wade appears to be pimping out his own sons weirdness in order to get himself some ratings for his ESPN special. Doe he have no shame???

That’s the point wade is making. It is socially acceptable in 2020. Maybe not in bumfrick Louisiana where y’all have some of the worst ideas and extremist views. You don’t have to accept it or like it.. but it’s going to help those families who kids are second guessing their sexuality. Be a little open minded. The world isn’t black and white
