feel like they stole this from kansas but im trying to trace who did it first. i would love it if they stole it then got all the credit for it, because thats just how shite works.

That was brutal.Their students are right behind the bench instead of in the cheap seats.I thought the dude was gonna cry.

They showed a closeup on SC of him, and it looked like he was crying, or at least had teary eyes.

Yeah I saw it live on the game and they kept showing him because there was a delay for some reason while they were chanting it. It was pretty funny.

Is that how loud and clear it come across the TV when the SS at LSU chants "bullshite" and other things the administration frown upon?

Looks like Kansas probably stole it from someone else, but obvs didn't do it as good as Duke.

also, it seems pretty clear that kansas started it. started in football and transitioned to basketball.

i bet you dont think kansas started the big heads thing either.

googled it and found a jayhawk messageboard with a guy bitching about the chant:

quote:

Dumb chant. Please stop using it, seriously. It makes me angry. I'll continue to yell at you students who feel like using it during games when an opposing player f's up.

That would be me.

If this was the first time Duke did it then they definitely got it from somewhere else. The link posted of the Missouri Kansas game was the game I attended. Missouri had 3 players foul out so I got to here it 3 times. Best chant IMO.

I have never been to a Duke game and I have heard great things about the atmosphere, but if the atmosphere is better than KAnsas's it couldn't be by much. My ears were ringing after the game.

yeah i saw a few threads about that.

the message board i post on has a pretty short thread right now just laughing at espn praising duke for being clever for this chant. as of now, they have decided it started around 2003 in football, got widespread around 2006, and then made its way to basketball.

nevertheless, no one is surprised that duke is getting the credit.

No, they're not.

They're neither original nor clever.

anyone know who the clemson player was? My GF's ex from high school plays for them and the idea of him choking back tears kind of makes me laugh

Someone posted on another thread that the ACC and "other major conferences" don't allow student sections behind the visitor's bench...

I obviously can't speak for the other teams, but Duke generally has its students closer to the floor than just about any other school in the country, along with Oregon and some smaller D-1 schools.

The entire lower half of the "TV side", opposite where Vitale/Elmore/etc stand is for undergrads, although in the past 2 years, they have given a small section to alums who are visiting and other Duke fans. The non-TV side has spaces reserved for Duke VIPs, who sit behind the Duke bench (former players, recruits, families, big donors, etc) and the opponent's group, who sit behind the visitor's bench. That's where you saw the UNC parents a few weeks ago, Greivis Vasquez earlier in the year, etc.

So the students don't sit behind the benches, but they are basically everywhere else in the front section, especially on the TV side.
