If he would have gotten one person to go on the record and just say that the players thought that as well, I could have accepted the article. Still would have disagreed with it but could understood writing it.
Instead he ends it with
You can't be a respected journalist, write that article with no one on the record, just promise us that it's done privately. That is ridiculous

The Dream Team was color coordinated. No one will talk about it publicly. But I can guarantee you it’s bitched about privately.

Fwiw, he criticizes black people more than he takes up for them, generally speaking.
They forgot about all those times when Jason Whitlock was throwing black athletes under the bus. Back then people agreed with him on a lot of shite. I wish I could pull up those OLD threads.

When Whitlock worked for the KC Star i use to think he hated black athletes. Hmmmm KC Star got rid of him now his attitude all of a sudden changes. Like someone said the guy just wants readers and attention. I guess he's "PRO black athlete" now.

Just wait until Chad does something stupid on Hard Knocks and Whitlock will write an article calling him a minstrel.
Posted on 6/28/12 at 6:44 pm to saintsfan22
That was pretty stupid of him to write
I get the argument for Shaq going instead of Laettner if he was too young to remember - but Whitlock was not. Laettner had the best college career of anyone since Bill Walton and had matched up favorably against the best big men in college (including Shaq, Webber, Larry Johnson...) Shaq was a freak but they didn't need another center and Laettner had just done more to deserve a spot.
The argument for Isiah over Stockton and Worthy over Mullin is just stupid. Stockton was playing at an incredible level, Mullin was fantastic in the early to mid 90s - Thomas was disliked by others & well past his prime and Worthy was just about retired. Why would you have taken Worthy over Mullin on that team? He fills no need and was just a lesser player that late in his career.

Doesn't make this a good article to write or do you think he is right?
ETA I don't think Whitlock is racist or even a racebaiter, but I do think that he believes he is the only person who is honest about race

He has done this. HIS way. Not as much as a SLAM as you would think. FACE IT. the dude got some kind of degree and now uses it as a forum for his beliefs. FACT. He is a racist and thats all there is to it. I am tired of BLACK media people thinking that Black athletes get a raw deal. It s STUPID. Steven A said that it was Fishers fault that Vince failed in TENN. I bet if the tables were turned he would NOT have said the same thing aboubt The PITTS coach about Big Ben.

White people think he's racist.
Black people think he's an uncle Tom.
My work here is done.

I like how he is so arrogant that he thinks he can speak for the players themselves. Like there was a conspiracy to make them keep the "real" truth to themselves.
And, why the need to always defend Jordan. Dude was a competitive a-hole who didn't like Thomas. Still was very best ever. Its ok to diss Jordan sometimes. Dude wasn't perfect.

What makes me laugh is that going into the Olympics Mullen had been to four straight All Star games and averaged 25+ ppg for 5 straight seasons.
He clearly did no research.

Well this came up a little bit ago during another thread.

Magic also admits that he joined with Michael Jordan and other players in blackballing Thomas from the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, saying, "Isiah killed his own chances when it came to the Olympics. Nobody on that team wanted to play with him. ... Michael didn't want to play with him. Scottie [Pippen] wanted no part of him. Bird wasn't pushing for him. Karl Malone didn't want him. Who was saying, 'We need this guy?' Nobody.''
"I'm glad that he's finally had the nerve and the courage to stand up and say it was him, as opposed to letting Michael Jordan take the blame for it all these years,'' Thomas responded during one of several interviews he gave to SI.com on Wednesday. "I wish he would have had the courage to say this stuff to me face to face, as opposed to writing it in some damn book to sell and he can make money off it.''

. . .But one thing that stuck out — everyone confirmed the long-time rumor that Pistons guard Isiah Thomas was blackballed from the team. It started with the Bulls Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, although Jordan hints there were people up the USA Basketball ladder that were more than happy to do that, and NBA exec Russ Granik basically confirmed that.
Jordan and Pippen pulled no punches. “That was one of the stipulations put to me (on the team) that Isiah wasn’t part of the team,’’ Jordan said. “Isiah was the general (of the Bad Boy Pistons),’’ Pippen said. “He was the guy who would yap at his teammates and say ‘Kick them on their arse. Do whatever you have to do.’ No, I didn’t want him on the Dream Team.’’
Granik pointed to an incident at the end of the Bulls/Pistons playoff series that year where Thomas led his teammates off the court before the final buzzer even sounded. That kind of sportsmanship and image was not what the NBA wanted to project to the world.

Thomas had shut out Jordan by not passing to him in all-star games and encouraging others not to either. Thomas was a punk toward Chicago, Boston, etc. Jordan and Bird hated him. Bird was not going to play...his back was killing him...but Jonhson and Jordan begged him to play, because they were the big three. during Olympic games, Bird would lie down innfront of the team bench to stretch his back. Mullin and Stocton have worlds more class than Thomas. They deserved the invites.
