Seems too easy to get a first down in this current age of college football. RPOs have changed the game. The leniency with blocking down field as well.

Here comes the downvotes, but college football has turned into arena league. The game was more fun with more stops.

What % of first downs are gained by penalty? You’re right it’s very boring and annoying to watch

Hoping this Covid year is an outlier

There are still plenty of punts in games with scores in the 40s. The problem with college isn’t it being to easy to convert 10 yards. It’s that explosive plays turn 2nd and 6 from the own 29 into touchdowns.

Defense either needs rules help, or to git gud scrub.

People shite all over 9-6, but I think football fans crave solid defense. It makes the fireworks on offense more impressive.

It's an interesting question.

1st and 15 actually could be interesting.

The air game isn't going to slow down.

I think the world isn’t yearning for more punts.

I think one of the biggest problems is the tempo that offenses play at.

Or heck, just let the defenses have 12 or 13 players.

As of now, holding a team to a FG feels like a three and out.

Exactly. If both teams score TDs constantly then TDs become boring. Scores need to be rare enough to be meaningful but not so rare the game is boring (soccer).

1st and 10 with 4 downs is the correct answer. If it were easy, there would never be a need for a punter.

How about just enforcing ineligible linemen downfield penalties on RPO calls? I'm tired of seeing linemen five yards down field on RPOs and not getting called for anything. Change the rules so that linemen is allowed to be only one yard past the line of scrimmage like they do in the NFL and that'll help college defenses tremendously.

Reduce the yardage and automatic first downs from penalties. Penalties are the number one issue in football, college and pros. They kill the natural flow of the game and they are weighted heavily towards the offense. Offenses get a lot of points from penalties

Big time. A huge cue for defenses use to be reading the lineman. They can’t do that anymore. Lineman move forward, crash the line of scrimmage.

Not anymore.

Unless they start allowing more physical coverage and start calling lineman downfield it won’t change. Every team runs the same plays. It’s RPOs and WR screens with play action mixed in.

Somehow we didn't have threads like this when it was LSU setting all the offensive records and going 15-0.

It’s this. I’m certainly not advocating that LSU’s defensive troubles are to blame the rule book but strong safeties can’t put the fear of god into a slot receiver like they used to...

Let defenders defend like they could 20-25 years ago and this shite takes care of itself. Rules changes have caused the scoring to go up. Coaches are merely scheming offenses to take advantage of the rules in favor of the offense.

Get rid of all defensive penalties makes more sense. Allow defenders to actually attack
