Does Burrow hold the ball too long? Statistically, he's fastest at getting the ball out.

LINK Among QB's starting 13 or more games, Joe Burrow is tied for fastest pocket time (time between snap and pass or pressure)

2.2 seconds

Burrow
Brady
Lawrence
Mac Jones

Time to let the "Burrow holds the ball too long" meme die.

I guess I'll say no.

With that o-line, both statements can be true

Didn’t know that was a meme. Those people need to watch Russell Wilson

What’s the average time he holds onto the ball when sacked?

That stat has to exist. I saw it when Rodgers was taking a large number of sacks to prevent throwing into coverage while under pressure. He basically took sacks rather than making riskier throws

LINK - not exactly what I’m referring to, though

When the ridiculous number of sacks Burrow takes gets brought up, know nothings like to blame Burrow with the "hE hOlDs It ToO lOnG!!!!!!!"

2.2 seconds factors in pressure.

I think it's because he only exists in extremes. He either gets it out right away or he holds it until he's sacked. There aren't a ton of in between plays for him.

I get that, but separate the pressures

That’s the stat I saw for people discredit Aaron Rodgers and his low interception rate

Tbh, burrow held onto the ball too long one time last night. The others he had no chance

That’s my thought as well

The averages fail to bear that out.

He gets it out, or is pressured within 2.2 seconds on average.

The timer stops on both.

Now an argument can be made that he holds on too long after pressure.

But the stat, combined with the sack #'s tells you his OL is just the worst.

ESPN's pass block win rate for the Bengals shows this too. It's how much of the time the OL can sustain a pass block for more than 2.5 seconds, and the Bengals are 3rd worst at 50%.

You're getting at the "why" of what I said, I think we're pretty much in agreement.

That he either gets the ball out quickly or holds it until he's sacked then points to the OL for why the average time is so low.

The burrow haters expect him to get rid of the ball within 1 second if the line breaks down immediately.

Behind that line he’d need to have it snapped to the WR to avoid sacks

If the numbers say so I guess he doesn’t.. but on 3rd downs Joe got a tendency to hold the ball a tad too long … anybody watching the game can see this… with that said Joe trying to make shite happen you can’t knock him for that

If the Bengals run an offense where half their pass plays are immediate screen passes and it is gone in .3 seconds, 40 % are 3-5 step routs where it's gone in 1 second, then year on the other 10% of passes where the routes are longer than 10 yards he could hold onto the ball way too long and get sacked at a high rate.

Do you not think he held onto the ball way too long on that 4th sack last night? Even if the other 3 were on the OL, that one could be on him holding the ball too long

I didn't watch the full game, because I'm an old man who gets in bed at 8 PM every day of the week, except on rare occasions, so I was actually shocked to see that he was only sacked 5 times last night. He had 3 before I turned it off.
