Does Ben Simmons have the defense to be the best player in the league?

Defense is always what separates the contenders from the pretenders, as far as the best is concerned.

He has been putting up great numbers but he will have to become way deadlier as a shooter.

Same question has been asked about Harden his entire career in Houston.
Answer is yes, and Simmons will be a much better defender than people realize when he gains 2-3 years of experience.
Too much length and size not to be atleast an average perimeter defender. He was always a pretty good rebounder at LSU and in the NBA that has not changed.

At first I thought no, bc his arms aren’t that long.
But he grew and he’s 7’0 tall so I don’t think it even matters. His reach is still nice bc he’s so tall

He won’t be the best player in his team as long as jojo is healthy. Embiid could be the best player in the league.

yes. you have to think about the advantages he provides with his rebounding ability as a + to his defense as well.
it is WAYYYY too early for defensive rating to mean much but right now he has the 42nd best defensive rating in the league, right above Draymond

He doesn’t have the shooting to be known as the best in the league IMO. He will be the best at what he does very soon though.
