If you're not putting together super teams, ala Dream Team?
Where did I even suggest I was doing this?
This didn't even remotely come close to even hinting that:
quote:
The only sport in which another country can compete with our league's champion would be MLB, but you'd have to take players off said championship team in order to field the international team.
If you are fielding a team to beat a league champion and in order to do it, you need to take players off that championship team, you aren't good enough to be a champion.

I’ve never been a fan of it and prefer Super Bowl Champs or NBA Champs Stanley Cup Champs etc but I think the reason is.....
quote:
College sports....call themselves National Champs

Well I'm trying to figure out parameters. Dream team, or you just have them compete against any team in the league, because the only examples of that type of competition is the Olympics or FIBA, and those are technically the best of the best.

Off the top of my head I couldn't say what the majority demographic is for hockey players, but I would guess a large majority isn't US born.
Majority of Hockey players are canadian, but Canada's top pro league happens to be the NHL.
What I was going at more is I think the best KHL team (Russian's pro league that people say is 2nd behind the NHL) would be competitive with an NHL team.
I guess the top KHL team could maybe beat the top NHL team?
I could be wrong.

Dude, are you high?
Your thread is about a US league champion calling themselves world champs. You then asked:
quote:
What sports could another country put together a team and actually compete with us, or even beat? Baseball and basketball?
If a country is putting together a team capable of beating said league champs, it would almost undoubtedly have to be comprised of players in that league from their country and quite possibly players specifically from that championship team. Because if another team full of professional players in that league can't beat them, how would a team full of people not good enough to be in that league beat them?

There absolutely COULD be a world champion outside North America from basketball, hockey, or baseball.
Football is the only ludicrous time world champion is used.

So which team?

Cuba
Japan
Both of those countries could certainly put together a team that COULD beat an MLB team.

There COULD
but id highly doubt it.
What's the best league outside of MLB? Japan?
Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks vs the Washington Nationals
Not sure where you would go for Basketball, Toronto against the Euroleague Champs I guess?
and for NHL; KHL champ vs St Louis Blues?

Japan has competitive professional baseball. Sure, they COULD beat an MLB team in a 7 game series. Are you saying theres no way?

Look, I'm all over the place.
What I THINK I was going with is do you use our league teams vs their league teams (EuroLeague), or go with "your best vs our best" to determine?
Again, I don't think they can compete, but unless you actually play them, don't call yourselves that.
I'm done with this. You win

So lets go play a pickup game at MSG and the winner can call themselves NBA champs.
