I imagine up north they like MLB more and don’t understand why we watch this.

I lived in the NYC sports media market area for a few years and you are correct. Up there, most folks don't know that college baseball exists and certainly do NOT follow it at all.

I guess I’ve missed something over the last 20 years, people now go to sporting events for food

This. LSU fans complain all the time about concessions at football games. It’s not like you just spent 8-10 hours outside the stadium, eating all the free, and extremely good food you could ever ask for. Don’t know why people even bother with concessions at LSU games, unless it’s for something to drink.

Same. The sloppiness and unpredictability in college game makes it so much funner. Exact opposite for football though, NFL all day over college.

To each their own but this is an objectively wrong opinion baw

No. When I was a kid, little league still had wood and aluminum bats. We had a big equipment bag with bats, balls, helmets, and catcher's gear. You could choose whatever bat you wanted, but even as kids we knew that metal bats gave you an advantage and since the major league players hit with wooden bats they were playing better baseball because of that.

I love baseball at all levels, but the metal bats just take things down a notch.

Not to hijack the thread, but I agree 100%. I look forward more to the tailgating than the game most of the time. If I get to Tiger Stadium and am in need of a hot dog or nachos, I’m doing it wrong.

I expect SEC country to be more into college ball.

Baseball, just like CFB, hinges on your connection to the team. If you attended said university, you have more of a reason to root for the alma mater than you do for a nearby pro team. Unfortunately, The portal and NIL will produce players with less loyalty, making it another minor league.

I’m not a fan of the stadium arms races either. LSU and SCar started it, Arkansas, Miss State, Florida, etc are even better. It’s going to push baseball down the path of football. Your left field condos and box seats behind home will lead to less passionate fans at the game. I already see this with LSU.

I’m getting long-winded here. Also, college baseball is developing a parity issue. 4 SECW teams making the CWS isn’t great for the game. The PAC-12 needs to get its shite together. I think you’re seeing the big business of college baseball (at least what it’s becoming) squeeze out the Irvine, Fullerton, Long Beach, and Wichita type squads.

Superior? No.

More enjoyable? Yes.

MLB is too slow of a game with fewer rallies and less unpredictability, whereas the college game is still relatively untouched by three outcome baseball.

I try every year to love MLB,

You may have your sports a little mixed up. For my taste, college football, specifically, the SEC is far superior to the NFL.

MLB is baseball. Their minor systems have more talent than the college ranks. College baseball is a minor sport even at the college level. Some schools will always embrace it more as some schools do track and field, field hockey, and bowling. Go Vandy!!

I like college baseball but it’s objectively bad baseball. The pitching especially is just fricking terrible compared to pro baseball

It's " amateur " baseball with weak links in a lineup that MLB just doesn't have. The absolute worst MLB franchise will crush a CWS champion with regularity.

No way. I never thought of this.

This is absolutely groundbreaking stuff

Even in this world of NIL, College Baseball seems relatively untouched. There's still broad parity. Maybe the obscurity helps preserve it. I'm not sure.

I've never cared about college baseball, but you bring up an interesting point about NIL and corporate interests remaining out of college baseball. I could see myself gravitating towards college baseball the more I drift away from college football.

Pre-NIL and conference realignment, college football was a far superior sport to the NFL. Post-NIL, if I'm going to watch spoiled professionals play a game, it might as well be the best athletes. Baseball might be the last place where that is not true.

BAMA just had their best super slugger, Zane Denton, enter the magic portal? Didn't Miss State have at least 10 players jump in at season's end as well?

Ok nevermind then. Shows you how much I know about college baseball. No restriction free agency in college is more harmful to the sport than NIL honestly.

Sure, some folks here, where the passion for college baseball is disproportionally higher than 98% country, but mostly....no.

Has there ever been a College game that was akin to the 1988 World Series?

Or 2004?

The drama, tension?

Metal bats and honking fans and crazy scores don't do it for me.

Like the commercial with the Raccoons eating garbage and one says "you gotta try this, it's terrible".
