This team reminds me a lot like the 15 Cubs in that they are both stacked with elite position player talent and while the top of the Yankees rotation ( Tanaka) isn't as good as the top of that Cubs one ( Arrieta and Lester), the bullpen for the yankees is terrific with Chapman, Betances,Clippard and Warren.

Do you think the yankees are legit contenders or have they just caught lightning in a bottle with their pitchers overperfoming and their lineup hitting like crazy

Of course. Big enough sample size right now to say they are a serious threat and could maybe be the favorites.

They certainly beat the shite out of the Cubs last weekend. They look pretty good.

I don't think their SP can keep up how well they have been playing, but if they do, absolutely they can win it all.

While I think they'll be near the top of the AL, I don't think they have a bunch of elite position player talent yet. Judge and Sanchez are, but Hicks and Gregorius are good defenders and not much more. The pen is what will keep them going in October. I give them one more year until Torres and Frazier get there.

A bit understated

Cubs had 5 starters make 30 starts. Two posted sub 3 ERAs, two were sub 3.5, and one was under 4.

If severino and Pineda don't implode they may be on to something. Hitting and pen is there

and the cards

Prob with the Yanks, they have no scary starter. A few solid good ones, but no one who seems they could carry through October, as of now.

Yes they have good pitching good hitting and good fielding.

Now what does Cashman do at the deadline to make it even stronger?

Do the Yankess go try to get Darvish? Do they go get another bat?

If they add one more starter than absolutely.

Betances and Chapman are big time on the backend.

Then you have Judge and Sanchez in the middle of the lineup.

Matt Holliday swinging the bat great too

Hell no...the Nats are stacked. Cards will be lucky to get wildcard spot.

Except for top end starting pitching, the Yankees are pretty much built for the postseason. The back end of their bullpen is lethal, their lineup can take walks and they can hit HRs.

They shouldn't do anything major at the deadline.

They are still in a period of grooming their talent. Not saying they won't make a big move, but stocking up in previous years would be wasted to gamble it all in one of their first years of this window.

They are legit but the cubs could have and probably should've won two of those three games.

They have so much money coming off the books as well this winter : If Tanaka opts out they will only have about $85 million in salaries on the books not counting Arbitration
