It doesn't matter how many people know the Speed channel exists. It only matters how many people know that Fox Sports 1 exists. And with them running commercials on Big Fox and all their regional channels, they're getting that info out there in front of the eyeballs that matter.

and putting bowl games, super bowls and golf tournaments on this channel will make them very aware of what it is

The detractors of ESPN are a vocal minority. Disney wants Fox to succeed to a point. As it will give them a chance to develop a new market and new advertising chances.

Disney isn't dumb , they program what America wants.

ESPN owns most of the bowl games. The only two they don't are the Sun and Cotton, besides the BCS.

Fox doesn't own any bowl games. ESPN actually owns the game.

The BCS contract for rights is held by ESPN for 8 more years btw.

you see, this is what makes ESPN tough to beat. whether you like it or not, the masses do like it

that's why ESPN does it

I really don't think they'll ever be equals but I do think Fox might do enough to make ESPN rethink some of their policies and that MIGHT be good enough.

What does Fox Sports 1 have to do to make that happen?

Contracts with the NFL, NASCAR, two of the BCS football confrences, EPL, and MLB.

ESPN shows one NFL game a week and about 5 MLB games a week.

Fox regionalizes and shows all NFC games and probably close to 30 MLB games a week.

The entire FOX entity can compete in terms of live programming, but the Sportscenter type show will not.

I like ESPN as a whole. MLBN is my sports station if choice, but there is some good programming. They offer a shite ton of live sports. ESPNews is fine for a short highlight show. I just do not watch some of the shows.

I love how angry some of you guys are towards ESPN. The good posters generally do not go on rants about ESPN. That is usually left up to the guys on here who know jack shite about sports.

The NBA TV rights come up in 2016.

ESPN/ABC and TNT are going to have a hell of a time keeping those rights with NBC Sports, Fox Sports 1, CBS Sports all intent on getting the NBA.

There are also rumors ESPN is gearing up to for a monster bid that would take the NBA Finals and all regular season games off broadcast TV.

FS1 will do extremely well.

Viewers have finally grown tired of TMZ Sports.

I think Disney understands ratings pretty damn well.

They know the big stories. You can bitch all you want about Tebow or Riley Cooper, but there are also the ones who generate double digit page threads on here. TD is far from being superior to ESPN.

and actually right now I am worried I might not even get FS1 for a while.

I'm with Time Warner and they are not currently willing to deal with the rate increase Fox wants for the channel.

Of course they happily added the asstastic Time Warner Sports channel to my package that I can get FC Dallas and high school sports on. LA's TWCSports feed has the Lakers and Galaxy but all of that is blacked out for me.

Fox has better/more NFL coverage, of course it can compete. Based on that alone.

Who the frick is going to watch NFL Live on ESPN over the Fox pregame crew on FS1? Very few.

Fox Football Daily with Bradshaw, Howie, Erin Andrews > NFL Live with fricking Berman/Wingo/John Clayton/Dilfer.
