As fans, we all share a part of blame to what it has become.

Look at recruiting sites and services. Look at the spectacle signing day has become.

Head coaches are the highest paid government employees throughout the states. Not the Dean of the Universities. Head football and basketball coaches.

Look at the "arms-race" of building elite facilities and 100,000+ stadiums.

Not to mention the slimy donors whose cash fills the duffels going to these kids and their families. I'd LOVE to see the investigation and reaping extend to them. Throw some of those assholes in the clink.

I want the NCAA to disappear and it would be nice if we stopped living in this fantasy land where the players are under a ridiculous amount of rules.

If we are talking about major college sports (CBB & CFB). It was never this to begin with and people think things are so bad now. They were much worse during the 70's-90's.

Based on what?

And for football, I would also argue that this is mostly confined to the SEC. You talk to players from even Big 10 schools or whatever and you don't get the sense that they don't belong in college like you do with players from the big SEC schools, FSU, etc. And you get a similar vibe from their fans, they realize it's just college. Listening to interviews from most LSU players is frankly embarrassing and many LSU fans are total idiots who don't give a shite about the school itself.

get rid of "athletic scholarships"

let the illiterate thugs play in minor leagues. college sports can go back to being as was intended, for student athletes

as the father of a young girl, and knowing how the "student athlete" football players at Baylor terrorized the campus, im 100% behind this.

it's a joke some of the guys that they let into the universities.

This is clearly the case, and it's disheartening. Not only do many of them not care, they are actually against things that are in the interest of bettering the university.

And how much money do these sports generate for the schools and their towns and state's economy? Millions. What happens to that ? You think people are paying that kind of money to go watch a science research fair?

Do a little research on the troubles players were getting in in the 70s -80s
Back then the cops looked the other way. There is 100+ Males on a college football team Take a 100+ random male students at LSU or Alabama and they'll get in just as much trouble

That's not the primary role of a university, or shouldn't be. The tail is wagging the dog at many institutions, including most in the SEC. Your post is a case in point.

Yale and Harvard are doing fine with their science research fairs.

No, but I want a level playing field. No paying players, but some slightly more rational NCAA rules (like what spreads can be served with bagels) should be put in place. No one should unknowingly violate the rules. They should be common-sense.

More importantly, I think players should be allowed to go straight from hs to the pros. I think if they go to college, they should be required to graduate with a degree. There should be a minor league playing in the spring where players who cannot go to college can play for at least a year or 2 before going to the NFL.

No phantom classes. No academic cheating.

Just rational policy.

Oh, and football scholarships shouldn't apply for Title IX because football is technically a co-ed sport. That would allow universities to add more men's sports like soccer, boxing, rugby, and ice hockey.

They were definitely more innocent. Before recruiting became a thing unto itself.
