Started reminiscing about Marshall Faulk in his prime. The greatest show on turf was so much fun to watch and man was he impressive.
Is it weird to think he is underrated and lost in the shuffle of all time great running backs?
From 1999-2001 Marshall Faulk was
First Team All-Pro (x3)
Pro Bowl (x3)
Super Bowl Champion (x1)
4122 Yards Rushing (5.4 Yards Per Carry)
2643 Yards Receiving (251 Receptions)
37 Rushing TDs, 22 Receiving TDs

I can remember watching San Diego State games late at night when ESPN would air them just to watch him

Faulk is ranked #70 in The Athletic and NFL Top 100 lists so it isn't like he hasn't gotten his due. He didn't make the NFL 100th Anniversary team but neither did LaDainian Tomlinson or Adrian Peterson. So no, I don't think he's that underrated historically. Most people know how great he was.

One of the best backs I ever watched

He was underrated in indy too
4/5 seasons over 1,000 yards
86 receptions in ‘98. Had between 47-56 receptions the other 4 years

Marshall Faulk would quite literally be the perfect RB for this era in the NFL.

Faulk is number 12 on the all time rushing list, he is number 7 on the TD list with 136.
He was a stud HS sprinter running a 10.3 which is cooking for HS.
How he escaped the south for the west coast a...???

because all the big schools wanted him to play DB in college. Oops

He’s like 5th career yards from a scrimmage
The RB position is what it is now because of Marshall Faulk

Because LSU was dead-set on Faulk playing defensive back. Faulk grew up in the 9th ward and was a HS all-american DB and played both ways. He ran a 4.3 but truly wanted to play RB in college. NOLA native, Curtis Johnson was the recruiter assigned to Louisiana and an Asst coach at San Diego State. Johnson saw Faulk's film while scouting another player. Johnson immediately contacted Faulk to schedule a visit out West. Marshall's dad died several days before his official visit to San Diego. For the OV, Johnson flew in from SD, met Faulk at the airport, and they developed a strong bond. Faulk was offered to play RB, and he felt Curtis was honest and would take care of him while in SD.
When LSU realized that Faulk was likely going to sign with SDSU, they tried to change his mind by landing a helicopter on the Carver football field on national signing day. LSU spent a hour talking with Faulk as he kept true to his word and signed with SDSU. Everything happens for a reason and to this day, Faulk and Johnson remain best of friends.

Yeah, Faulk doesn’t seem like a guy that would back out of a commitment or have a press conference to put on a hat for attention.

He is my favorite football player of all time, and the main reason I really developed a passion for the game.
I think he has a great argument for the most well-rounded RB in NFL history and I'm not sure we have seen anyone since Marshall that has been able to contribute in the receiving game at the level he did.

He’s either probably just a tad outside my personal Top 5 of all time. Maybe even an argument for 5th.
Most people this is the top RBs as having the huge massive rushing totals, but the way Faulk had those rushing plus receiving totals was really amazing. Like a faster Roger Craig who lasted longer in his prime.

I saw him literally will STL to the Super Bowl in the NFCCG against Philly.
The Colts trading him to the Rams for second- and fifth-round picks is one of the greatest deals in NFL history.
