Did we have a thread about Jack Nicklaus trashing the leaders at The Memorial?

He was trying to give Scottie a compliment but he ended up shitting on Nick Taylor, Ben Griffin, and Sep Straka.

Had to be hard to hear Jack say that about you if you’re those guys

Have you been watching the level the Scottie is playing at?

Straka and Griffin have won twice this season. The same number of wins Scottie had this season before Sunday. Jack needs to sit in his retirement home.

I imagine Barbara prolly scolded him a bit for that. It might be true, but there's no need to say "Scottie's the best" by dismissing the others.

Straka won the Amex and Truist, Scottie didn't play in either tournament.

Griffin won at Zurich, Scottie didn't play. Griffin also won the Charles Schwab, and Scottie finished 4th.

I think it's a bit worse than shitting on them by comparing them to Scottie. He was shitting on them by comparing them to Xander, who hasn't been the same player this year with his injuries.

He is 100% correct

I also know 100% he regrets saying that in that moment how he did. Being right doesn’t mean you have to belittle others, and Jack has had a lifetime of knowing that.

No big deal either way though

Old people, especially Jack Nicklaus, say whatever they want. I think it was a bit of a dick statement but he wasn't lying. But you're right, probably does suck for those other guys to hear the tGOAT talk about them, probably for the first time, and that's what he says.

If you are those three, do you go back and play in his tournament?

I obviously don’t know but I just have a feeling Jack reaches out personally to all 3 today.

He's right tho.

They aren't in his league.

Every one of those players knows he is right.

If Sepp Straka responded today by saying

“Jack is old and fat now, and he will die soon” that would also be right. Should he do it?

I'm sure out of pride they'd probably not want to, but that is a huge purse. All those guys made good money.

I mean Straka is the 7th ranked player in the world and Griffen is 15 and has been on fire (had a 5 stroke lead at one point on Saturday and just kind of choked).

Again, Jack is right, but it doesn't mean it's right to say that.

I had the same thought watching that interview last night.

Michael Breed echoed these thoughts on his show this morning. I'm paraphrasing but it was basically: Scottie didn't have to play his A game when his B game is better than the rest of the field.
