Watch the knock out. Walcott could've easily gotten up any time.

He could’ve gotten up, and did get up, but that was a brutal fricking punch. Marciano was an animal in his prime. Should’ve gotten another round at least.

It was a bit of a quick bell but it was probably better for his brain long term for that fight to be over.

The first fight was a brutal slugfest for 13 rounds before Walcott was annihilated.

Teddy Atlas always said rematches usually end early because the challenger knows he did everything he could in the first fight but still couldn't win.

In the rematch he's already a Dead Man Walking, resigned.

He gave up and then protested to save face...staring at his corner the entire count.

quote:

The challenger pulled himself up to a sitting position, one hand on the ropes, apparently unhurt. He then chose to sit there, like a man trying to decide if he wants to get out of bed or not, and let the referee count him out.

Once the fatal ten was reached, Walcott finally hoisted himself to his feet and promptly assumed the demeanour suitable for a victim of injustice, gesturing and expressing disbelief, strenuously arguing that he was the victim of a fast count, though this was clearly not the case.

Marciano defeated Walcott for the title in '52, rematch in '53
Marciano defeated Louis in '51
Louis defeated Walcott in '47 & '48

3 fighters (Ezzard Charles, Joe Louis, Rocky) combined to have 8 fights with Jersey Joe, all 8 were for the heavyweight title

Dammit. Good one. I wanted to post something similar but it wouldn't let me.

Joe Louis was 132 years old when they fought.

I think one thing I like is that there were fewer cameras at work and less zoom. you get a steadier view of the fight and don't miss action while they're trying to show a fighter's facial expressions or whatever.

Perhaps he could’ve gotten up, but Joe was 39 years old, he had his money and his wits, he’d probably shot whatever was left of his wad in the first fight that was a classic, and he decided that was enough of letting Marciano beat on him. Something anyone who questions his heart never had to experience.

Louis didn't want a rematch.

I just watched the whole fight again for the first time in ages. I think Walcott was stunned and lost track of the count. But it was obvious from the opening bell that he wasn’t thrilled about being there. The last fight, he was still half out of it an entire hour after he got back to the dressing room, Rocky hit him so hard. That’s going to be in the back of anyone’s mind.
