I’m not paying it, I don’t care what their NIL value is…

Why should they have to sit and forgo eligibility? You act like a college developed their talent all alone. In hoops, these kids are highly skilled students of the game playing all over the nation by early HS. Do you not see how sitting on a bench in street clothes might limit one’s NIL value?

No one’s forcing them to play in college. Just go tryout for a pro team and skip being held down by The Man.

The schools obviously do not want that. Except blue bloods. This is pro sports and it was before they were paid. Huge money flying around, massive full time job like obligations and workloads. This isn’t D3 where they work in season. Playing D1 hoops and FB is a 40+ hour a week, year-round job with serious physical and mental risks. Idiot fans stalking these guys, harassing them when they frick up. Hilarious people act like it was so innocent until they got paid.

From a pure bakaetball standpoint, the March product has improved dramatically over the last 2-3 yrs.

I'll gladly take great basketball over some no name school and 40 rim clanks from terrible ad jumpers every game.

The talent and play in most of these games feels like NBA lite, but with extreme hustle and aggression. It's a far superior product now.

Then watch the frigging NBA then. Put COLLEGE back into college basketball.

Fewer upsets, higher seeds bolstered by transfers and NIL advancing with no trouble, absolute blowouts in the Elite 8 isn't a dramatically improved product.

There have been some great games, but there always has been. These last two tournaments have been very forgettable.

But we could have gotten there with a shorter journey. We know the elite teams, start with 16 since the current system allows the top teams to poach for their needs and eliminate the senior laden mid-majors.

Also, what a great comeback and finish. F* Duke.

Not NIL. The transfer rules allowed this Change it to where you can transfer once and then you have to sit a year and things will change. Most of the cinderellas were veteran teams beating a bunch of 4 and 5 star freshmen. Now the good vets will get plucked and paid.

Nailed it

Yep. Unlimited transfers is the main problem.

This aged terribly with the UConn ending. And we did get a 9 vs 3 seed in the elite eight too. Two 1 seeds in the final four feels very normal.

This tournament has the perfect mix of two elite teams (Arizona, Michigan), some chaos that got a 9 vs 3, but that game still felt high quality and was back-and-forth until the final four minutes, and then an epic all-timer.

A 2 vs 1 seed comeback doesn't change the point at all. Instead of 4/4 Elite 8 blowouts there were only 3/4.

Great game, but we used to have unpredictable early round upsets by mid-majors with experience over young talent. This was fun to watch.

Now we have mostly predictable early round games and still have blowouts in the Elite 8. This is less fun to watch.

Today's last game was fun to watch. The other 3 this weekend, not so much

If you're just looking at final scores, sure. Anyone who actually watched Iowa-Illinois would say it was far from an actual blowout. It was extremely back-and-forth for 36/40 minutes.

Let's agree to disagree.

No offense, but this has little to do with it. No major schools are finding diamond in the rough US kids on social media or in lower level travel ball. It's unlimited transfers, supported by NIL. Leads to:

Keaton Wagler was ranked 267th in the recruiting rankings and is a now an NBA lottery pick on a Final 4 team as a Freshman.

Regarding whether or not Illinois should be considered a “major” school, Illinois got pretty bleak in basketball in the 2010’s, but under Brad Underwood they normally aren’t digging past the 100’s for talent, especially with the (now ridiculous) pipeline to the Euro kids.

So all that considered I would consider Wagler a literal Diamond in the rough.

I think you meant to say former Euro professional players.
