Guess Williams going to the pro bowl doesn't mean he's proved anything? Just because it didn't happen at last year's Super Bowl doesn't mean that Williams hasn't earned some respect when compared to some guy who hasn't done anything yet.

My bias is that Williams ability and potential vastly exceed his production

Because of that I think he's a doucher when it comes out he's wasting time hazing a rookie instead of leading by example

That literally has NOTHING to do with the situation.

I really wonder if all of the people defending Dez have ever been in a team environment.

Although it seems like the cowboys have a tough time with the whole TEAM thing. I think it filters down from the top. His owner prolly thinks it's just great (like the rest of these idiots).

Every situation is different

The Giants gained swagger with Shockey when he came in as a rookie and wouldn't take BS from over-rated veterans... or that's how Strahan saw it

I play rugby, which is, despite what gridiron guys like to think, truly the ultimate team game.

Sure, rookies and other new players get their share of hazing from the vets in our environment, but if a guy says, "frick off" to some of it, he's still respected.

But there are different mentalities involved in different sports, as someone else pointed out.

Sure, carrying the pads really isn't a big deal; similarly, NOT carrying the pads shouldn't be a big deal, either.

And a veteran on that team I would very likely beat your arse. You do not come in to an established organization and tell them how things are gonna go. You respect tradition and do not always have to know the reason why everything is happening. "Because we said so" is good enough for a rookie. He will find out soon enough.

Major red flags for this guy. Surprise surprise, Jerry drafts another Prima Donna.

Perhaps. Maybe the vets on the Cowboys do not respoect Roy and Dez picked up on that. I'm not there. I should not judge.

Good enough from a blue chip player or a coach - worth a to the average douchers who want to pull that shite

Most of the guys who try and haze rookies are should have been better or never were great players trying to establish a higher place on the pecking order than they deserve

If the TEAM hazes rookies, the rookies should play along. Does everyone haze? obvioulsy not. I never did. The rooks are asking for problems otherwise.

As I said, maybe the Cowboys think Roy is a tool and Dez picked up on that. If so, he might have gained a little respect, especially in the anti-Roy crowd. Who knows.

IMO. if the long snapper tells you to carry his pads, it's wise to do so if you are unsure of his "place" on the team. It's very possible that the whole damn special teams (where you will likely play) has his back. He may even be the longest tenured player in the organisation.

Good point. When it's a TEAM thing, like making the rookie buy a round of drinks for all the guys when they're out or making him do something for ALL of them, that's a different story.

Wrong. It helps DEZ.

This.

I am reminded of a saying I have heard many times. "They only tease the ones they like. It's when they stop teasing that you should worry." I may be paraphrasing.

I think Roy Williams was trying to teach Dez something because he cared about his development, not because he took some sicko pleasure out of humilating him. I also think Dez can learn some important stuff from Roy. Now Dez has sent a strong message, no thanks, bro, I don't want your help.

IMO, that was not a very smart move on Dez's part.

I wonder what his response would be if Jerry Jones asked him to go get him some water?

I remember Michael Vick rolling his eyes when Doug Johnson told him to carry his pads, but he did it.

But is Dez Bryant the ONLY rookie being asked to carry pads?

If all the rookies are doing it, he shouldn't act like he is above them.

Speaking of Witten:

quote:

Dallas Cowboys veteran tight end Jason Witten had a short and pointed observation on rookie receiver Dez Bryant's breach of long-standing protocol.

On Sunday, Bryant refused the traditional rookie duty of carrying a veteran's pads after practice. In this instance, Bryant spurned fellow receiver Roy Williams. Witten, who toted tight end Dan Campbell's pads as a rookie, did not dismiss the issue.

"We'll take care of that in house, that's for sure," Witten said after the afternoon practice in the Alamodome. "It'll be taken care of. We addressed it this morning, and that's all I've got to say about it. It's been taken care of, rest assured."

No it wouldn't.

It would be seen as a racist act.
