Deshaun Watson officially has requested a trade from the Houston Texans, per league sources. He actually did it weeks ago. Their new head-coaching hire, David Culley, has not and will not alter Watson’s thinking.

Deshaun Watson hasn’t spoken to new Texans general manager Nick Caserio nor executive Jack Easterby. Watson is moving on and waiting to see where his NFL future takes him.

I got an idea. Call his bluff. Don’t trade him.
He just signed a 4 year contract extension. Now that he secured the bag he’s gonna request a trade?
Call his bluff. Texans own his arse until 2026.

I agree. Do not let the NFL become the NBA where star players can whine their way to another team.
Now, if someone offers the Texans something like 3 1st round picks + a young pro bowl caliber player, they should listen.

This.
Unless it’s to the Saints

Not that I blame him, but I hope the Texans say no and make him sit out
I dont want the NFL turning into the NBA where players just choose completely where and when they want to play

He can’t even really sit out without making it worse.
Under the new CBA you can only have like 3 unexcused absences for a hold out until his contract would toll.
So unless he plans on pulling a Carson Palmer, he doesn’t have a ton of leverage if they want to put their feet into the ground

The Texans won't be able to field a competitive team before 2026 unless they are able to trade him for a king's ransom.

Exactly, call his bluff unless someone has their franchise QB go down and is willing to mortgage their future.

1 Deshaun Watson in the hand >> Kings Ransom in the Bush

The Texans have been searching for their franchise QB since their inception in 2002. They finally nailed it in the draft and found their guy, and now he wants out after his 3rd full season.
And after just 1 bad season. They were 10-6 and 11-5 the two previous seasons. It’s not like they’ve been the Bengals.

I honestly hope the NFL behind close doors strong arms him

Agreed but if Watson sits out you have neither. That’s the issue with doing what he’s suggesting
