Top 10 all time rushing in NFL
College recruiters tried to make him into an edge rusher.
If Kiffin doesn't stop running him in 2014 vs Ohio St., he's got two nattys.

Myles Garrett vs. Derrick Henry Street fight
Who are you taking?

quote:Well Saban is an idiot. The guy was UNSTOPPABLE his freshman year. They just barely gave him the ball.
People forget it took him a couple years to get going in both college and the pros. Saban has talked about this, his freshman year they OC was on him because he was struggling, didn’t know the offense because in HS he didn’t have too.
But when they did..
Being a poor pass blocker was an incredibly stupid reason to not find a way to get him involved in the offense. There were 4 games that season where he got 5+ carries. Spread out through the season and culminating in his unreal performance against Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl, he received 5, 5, 6, and 9 touches.
He went for 388 yards and 4 TD. Over 15 yards per touch.
The pass blocking story is bs.
Oh no, he’s not pass blocking well early in his freshman season. Let’s not give him any touches! And we don’t want to win that game above so let’s not feed him at all. After all he isn’t pass blocking like an NFL vet yet!

People laughed at me for saying I’d take him #1 overall in the 2016 draft.

I wanted Saban fired that day. The audacity to play someone who wasn’t great at pass blocking in spring camp.
We could have lost that game with this liability out there.
ETA: Side note, I can’t blame pride for not seeing it with Henry until a few years ago. Derrick has a subtle effectiveness that can be hard to pick up on.

His final season at Bama is second to only Barry Sanders as far as college RBs IMO. When I saw what he did to SEC defenses and how he got better the more attempts he was given I just thought he was a can’t miss NFL player. Then when his combine numbers were almost identical to Von Millers I knew it for a certainty.

Sugar Bowl is the end of the season right? Almost like you know he got better the longer he was in the system and practicing

Over 15 yards per touch.
A little skewed by 1 catch for 61. His soph year he a good year but nothing special and his first 2 years in the pros he did nothing wasn’t til the end of his third year

I never said anything about pass blocking, the comment I heard from Saban didn’t mention it either.
Why do people think a player is just born a certain way? As if he’s always the peak version of himself as if there’s no learning or development or improvement over time? It is not an insult to Henry to say he got better over time, actually quite the contrary, it’s a testament to his hard work. People his size are used on defense for a reason. He’s the exception and he was able to succeed at the highest level because he worked hard for it. Heisman winner, pro FB hall of famer, and from all reports and good guy off the field and true role model

I would have been one of those people. I never thought he would have the NFL success he has. Dude is a absolute beast and deserves all the praise

Henry would be the GOAT if he wasnt stuck on the shitty arse Titans for so long

The fear was he’d be another Brandon Jacobs at best and Ron Dayne at worst but he outran SEC defenses, he was unstoppable vs elite competition and was doing a lot of this from the shotgun which isn’t ideal for his type of back.

A little skewed by 1 catch for 61
Take it out and his production falls to 13.6 yards per touch

Yep. Similar to LeBron

Fournetter is just another LSU bust.

He landed on a great teat for his talent. Just like Saquon did. Both teams are built to run the ball.
