Derek Jeter was not a good shortstop. Convince me I'm wrong.

I’d say he was good, but towards the end of his career, he was not. Had very little range at that point in his career.

At his absolute best he was maybe average.

He was no Ozzie Smith with the glove.

I don’t think he needed to cut that ball off in the Oakland game.

Omar Vizquel is arguably the most underrated SS in MLB history.

Ozzie Smith is the least deserving player ever inducted into the hall of fame.

Cult of personality. He was mediocre. Slap hitter with an average glove.

He was damn good.

However, He was not good enough for the Jeter dick writers/riders to vote him into hall with no other candidates on their ballots. That was a sham.

That foul ball catch going into the stands is one of the most overrated plays in the history of baseball

for most of his career he had a knack for making the mundane look spectacular. modern analytics hate him, but he had some ESPN highlights that looked simply amazing for the average viewer

Only haters care about whether he was a “good shortstop” or not. He was a cultural icon who transcended the game, much like Michael Jordan. Obviously not on MJ’s level skill-wise, but Jeter was bigger than baseball. No one really cared how “good” he was, and bitching about it is sort of missing the point.
