That’s just stupid amount of money....... for a player who could blow out his knee and never be the same......

It's probably a lot easier for them to stomach with it being only a 2 year deal. The chances of something happening to him in that time are much lower than the long-term deals many of these guys demand. Hopkins is smart. Short term deal with almost all of it guaranteed is better than a long term deal with a higher value for the life of the contract but less guaranteed. If he plays through the next two years, he'll still only be 30 years old and will be a free agent again to negotiate another deal. And if he gets hurt and doesn't, his finances are secure. He's also a top 3 WR in the game. Based on the current market, he's worth the contract, especially with such a short-term commitment from the team.

makes you wonder sometimes how many of these guys really need agents. Many do obviously because they're idiots of a high degree, but shite if you can negotiate a deal like that and save the 5-10% to your agent, what's the point of bothering with one? I'd probably just have a entertainment lawyer on retainer to read the contract to make sure everything looks right than paying an agent on commission to negotiate back and forth for me.

Plus could you imagine being the team that shafted a guy who did his own deal? You'd literally never get another FA.

we might not know for a few years, if ever, what might be hidden in the fine print. no guarantee this was a good idea.

We were going crazy like a couple of months ago about Michael Thomas getting 20 per year.
Nuke Hopkins will average around 18.8 million per year through the course of his contract.

This is an extension. His current deal already runs through 2022.

This is to make sure they have a happy #1 WR after Fitzgerald retires to help Murray develop.

I hope he at least had a good lawyer look at the contract otherwise he might get fricked in the end.

Well he did a lot of fricking on the front end.. He will probably be just fine.

Lol NFL is becoming an NBA level joke. No WR is worth that and I’m a huge Hopkins fan, I think there’s an argument to be made for him being the best WR in the business. I guess if you’re not interested in winning it makes sense, I just don’t get that mindset for a franchise.

None of his years left in AZ are guaranteed, though. So, they locked him up for 5 years with only 42 million guaranteed. Not a bad deal for Arizona. Julio's 3 year extension included 64 million due at signing.

Less flexibility.

This move makes no sense for the Cardinals. He’s under contract for the rest of Murray’s rookie deal. Outside of a stud offensive lineman, I wouldn’t commit any large yearly sum to a player when you have to (hopefully) pay your quarterback and you just witnessed two of them get paid 40 million annually this offseason. Dumb deal, especially for a high volume possession receiver.
