He is only making it worse with this awful cover up story.

The lies after the first lie seem to bury people. Who else is old enough to remember Adam Sandler doing Canteen Boy skits on SNL? Canteen Boy's "Canadian girlfriend" was more believable.

They need to realize it has hit the fan - apologize for everything on the Oprah network(that no one gets) and move on.

ESPN had this story in their collective laps 10 days ago and chose to do nothing with it.
Well, I missed that. I just thought ND was the one trying to cover up.

Through Deadspin's efforts, they were able to ultimately conclude that Lennay Kekua did not exist. In their expose, Deadspin unraveled the story by determining a myriad of parties involved in the deception. Among the individuals highlighted was a woman named Uilani Rae Kekua, whose online presence has mysteriously disappeared in recent days. PlayerWives.com had our own run in with the individual posing as Uilani Rae Kekua after receiving the following emails in rapid fire succession in the late hours of December 6, 2012:
11:02 PM, EST: Please, on behalf of our family... Take down the page of our sister Lennay Lekua*. We ask that you please respect our privacy as we still mourn the loss of our sister. We trust that you understand. Thank you & God bless! If you have any further concerns or questions please e-mail @ uilanirae@yahoo.com
*Our first sign that this may not be legit came at the misspelling of her own last name. Our eyebrows continued to raise at the email received minutes later:
11:17 PM, EST
Please take this page about Lennay down. Our family has already requested for the media to please respect our privacy and the memory of our Lennay. Please remove this page ASAP, thank you. -Kekua Family

Urgent requests to handle changes have come to us in the past, but rarely increasingly agitated emails within 20 minutes of the prior. Minutes later, we received a third email from her, which was an exact copy and paste version of the first email noted above. Our site requires a contact form to be filled out as well as a simple math problem to verify that you are a human being and not a spambot. The individual posing as Uilani had to enter the system three times, and fill out the form to submit these contact forms. It's very possible that the heat from Deadspin was getting strong, or the idea that the story of Lennay Kekua was about to get even bigger during the Heisman campaign and the perpetrators behind the hoax got scared.

All emailed responses to uilanirae@yahoo.com went unreturned. At the time of the emails this post was one of the first results on all search engines for the term "Lennay Kekua," which was the term this individual searched to arrive at our site. The emails in question came to us from an AT&T wireless device in Los Angeles, though further efforts to verify the emails have come up short, and no further information could be obtained.

Notre Dame played AT Stanford last year. I don't know about you guys but if "the love of my life" went to Stanford and we played At Stanford, I think I would try to meet up with her.

You dont have to bother the family or disr3spect their privacy to verify that someone fricking died. I qm not letting them off the hook that easy. It was lazy journalism fueled by the desire to report a sensational story.

Freaking this.

I would almost feel compelled to let Wojciechowski off the hook if he just lazily didn't fact check on good faith that no one would lie about a dead girlfriend who never existed.

But when he admits he looked, found nothing and stopped there, his excuse doesn't fly. A competent journalist would want to investigate further.

The already-bizarre Manti Te'o-Lennay Kekua story just got stranger.

Earlier today, Deadspin published a report that Kekua, who the press was told died of leukemia in September, was in fact a fictional person created as part of an elaborate online hoax. Contradicting that report, former Arizona Cardinals fullback Reagan Maui'a has told ESPN that not only is Lennay Kekua a real person, but that he personally met her while doing charity work in Samoa with Troy Polamalu and other Polynesian athletes. Maui'a claims they were introduced by her cousin, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo:

After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an "after-party" for all of the athletes involved in the camp.

"She was tall," he said. "Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model ... "

He said it is his understanding that Kekua's mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he'd never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said: "No, she is real."

The report contradicts Notre Dame athletic Director Jack Swarbrick, who told reporters Wednesday night that Kekua is a fictional character created to perpetrate a hoax against star Irish linebacker Manti Te'o.

Tuiasosopo, a former high school football star and current professional musician, was cited by Deadspin as the person behind Lennay Kekua's apparently fictional persona. Tuiasosopo is reportedly a close friend of the Te'o family.

Te'o and members of his family had previously told reporters that the two had met after a game between Notre Dame and Stanford, and that Kekua had visited Hawaii to see Te'o's family. Swarbrick confirmed tonight that those reports were false, saying it was a "purely online relationship."

I can't believe ND would go so out of their way to try and defend him like this. That press conference was very odd to me. They better hope he doesn't admit down the line somewhere that it was all a lie.

5 bucks says he does admit it reasonably soon, and does it in a way that blows up Notre Dame's publicity machine's current efforts like a Chinese fireworks factory.

If Bobby Petrino would have wiped out with an imaginary girlfriend on his motorcycle instead of a real one, he would still be at Arkansas today.

Imaginary girlfriends are not bad in all cases.

In the Mormon religion they have VERY strict rules and they may not have seen each other because they didn't want to give them self the opportunity to give into temptation

I'm gonna say negatory. I've actually been to a Mormon dance/party on Stanford's campus. Summer of 2009, I roomed with some Mormons in San Jose on an internship and I went to a number of Bay Area mormon party/meet ups.

They were fricking weird. It was literally like being at a Jr. High party with a bunch of 18-25 yr olds. Nice kids but all weirdos and the chicks enjoyed hugging waaaaay too much.

Almost every one of these shin digs ended up with watching a movie in either a parent's family room or our condo. Was like 8th grade. Closest I ever got was a through the jeans tug under the covers. It's like their entire life is one giant cockblock. They do socialize a lot and that is part of the temple's plan for avoiding temptation, to have supervised activities as often as possible to keep eyes on them. The other kids cockblock like it's a contest.

It makes sense because it was in ESPN's best interest to ignore the story. It called into question the journalistic integrity of some of their best reporters.
