I think I'm going to have to rule out the ghey angle of the conspiracy theories.
Te'o probably did get catfished. These football players and athletes are not the brightest people.
But I believe he did know at some point and kept on lying. He just needs to come out and say he found out at some point and felt too embarrassed to tell anyone.
Then he needs to say the story just got away from him. He didn't want to disappoint his family, friends, fans, and ND. So, he kept the story going.
Then he needs to apologize and say he wants to get past this and get on with focusing on football.
The only problem with all of this is he should have done that yesterday or when the Deadspin article came out. Now, it looks like he's buying time to make sure his "story" doesn't have any contradictions or holes that could lead people to not believe him.

He'll yeah. I was born mid 80's. With all the cell phones and Facebook etc the world is worse off in that term

better is kinda to each his own
but certainly a simplier time. These kinds of "games" just didn't exist. Games did, just not these kind

Then he's one of the most gullible dumb asses that ever lived. Calling a girl the love of your life after only seeing a singular photograph of her on Twitter goes beyond the levels of retardation.

The ease at which a hoax of this magnitude can be pulled off simply because of the technology we have today. And then most people's reaction is to laugh, make jokes (myself included), and in some ways glorify or appreciate the entire act.
The technology of today is wonderful no doubt, but I'm afraid we might be creating a populace that's losing it's sense of reality in a way.

well the 80/s90s were a LOT more violent with a lot more people in society acting shitty towards each other

it's like the movie carrie and even stuff like the breakfast club, noting students fricking with each other, don't reflect all of that

People who live very sheltered lives tend to be very gullible and lack street smarts. I know quite a few people like that.

You also have with Polynesians a very masculine anti-gay culture. Add the Morman and ND football angles and if Te'o is gay, and you see the motive for creating a fake beard.
Then you have his scummy cohort Ronaiah who uses his sister and lies about lupas and there we find the motive for killing her with leukemia with a potential charity scam.
Think about it. They almost killed her off last Spring. But there's no money involved with a car accident death. So she recovers only to get leukemia.
Again I don't think Teo was involved with a scam plan but Ronaiah could have convinced him to use it for Heisman publicity, which he did.
As for the pro player, he shut up after his initial statement tht he knew her except to tweet that the other Samoan pro player wasnt involved(I'm forgetting names here but this is the Ariz and Pitt samoans I think). He could have said he met her to give cover to Teo when the story broke but before Teo responded. It's odd that he refuses interviews

Due to them dad blast compooters and cellular tellyphones, right?
Society has been effed up for a long time. The Internet and the 24-Hour News Cycle just makes you hear about the effed up stuff quicker than it used to.

I don't know. I think technology makes it easier to get caught. I've heard multiple stories of people whose dad basically had two families in different towns while they were growing up and no one knew until he died. It would be a little tougher to get away with that kind of thing nowadays.
