This shite is crazy. Who the f are those people tweeting about it??

BTW, all the "established" media that reported this need to be fired. How the f*ck did none of them check up on the details? No one checked for an obituary, a death certificate, student records, etc.?
I believe it all started with Pete Thamel. From there, the basic assumption of credibility is what kept anyone else from digging deeper. Guys like Mandel, Staples, and Feldman are busy doing their own research on their own shite. They're going to assume that Thamel did the leg work and that his story is legit. I guess you could blame them a little, but it's kind of how their business works.

Any reference to @lennahkay (or whatever her handle was) would have gone into his twitter feed. It's impossible to know if he read them but anyone following her would have those in their feed. Same with @mat_5 or whatever.
So if he didn't see the tweets, someone close to him following them could have and told him.
So then why does Ronnaiah call Te'o on the same day the tweets start? Why call him at all? Answer: he never called him. At least not to fess up. He called him to tell him the catfish was out of the bag. :-)

What's funny is that Pete Thamel, the dude who published the original cover story in SI back in October, SAW red flags but chose to ignore him. He found no record of the car crash and no record of her ever being at Stanford. Instead of following up with Te'o on these issues, he simply brushed them aside.
All of this goes back to him.
All of this goes back to him.

Former Arizona FB said he met "Lennay" through Ronaiah. Who was pretending to be "Lennay" is the question. She Is Real-ish

Thamel was wrong about almost everything with Cam. Seriously, he wrote articles that were factually incorrect as well as mis-interpretting SEC and NCAA by-laws.
The guys is horrendous. Not just because he was a leading Cam basher, but because some of the stuff he wrote was FACTUALLY incorrect and he is not smart enough to correctly interpret by-laws.
Running with anything he writes is totally irresponsible.

Which leads me to believe Ronaiah was casting this Lennay net all over the place to other Samoans.
He tried to catch the AZ FB first.

Definitely. What's funny about Thamel is that no one in SEC territory are the least bit surprised by his lazy reporting. The Auburn stuff, the Tyrann Mathieu hit piece, I'm sure there is more, but that guy is scum. I'm surprised he didn't just make up sources like he's done in the past.

South Carolina baseball player, Michael Roth, is saying he was catfished as well. Not as naive as Teo, but pretty naive to get caught up in his success and fame and think that chicks just wanted him because of it. Luckily he confided in a friend and they figured out it was a hoax. Sounds like his catfisher was an amateur compared to this Tuiasosopo character (although it seems like it would have been harder to catfish someone in 2010 compared to now).

Good point, I'm obviously not too twitter savvy haha. With that in mind, he had to have read them or had knowledge of them, i agree.

These people are fricking morons to be dating online. Seriously how immature are these people

That's one of the original tweeters.
It's possible Te'o was still being duped but with him having so many followers including his family and this around the time of the Heisman, someone would have told him about these catfishing tweets.
At that point he could have googled her name for an obit or something. Googled her family's name.
But didn't the ND AD say at first he wasn't convinced the caller was real or something? Even if you're not convinced, if someone calls you from your girlfriends phone number, how can you not google and check it out? How does he wait 3weeks to tell his coaches? Did he tell anyone for 3 weeks?
Nope. Instead for the next few days he keeps talking about his dead girlfriend.
No way no how this makes sense.

no you are spot on. The "islands" are a totally different culture and if you don't have extensive dealings with them, then it's hard to understand. Not trying to be mean or a arse but....in my dealings with many men and women of "pacific islander" descent...they are rather basic and very emotional
Add "monumental attention whores" to the list.
