My summary, which I believe to be as logical as any theory:
1. Roniah Tuisasosopo (along with perhaps a girl) concocted a made up girl profile online (Lennay) and became secret admirers of Teo, the KC RB, Dalton Hilliard (UCLA player) and others.
2. Teo developed an online relationship with Lennay. Teo believes they have a spiritual connection.
3. Lennay conveniently dies at the same time as Teo's real grandmother dies. She also conveniently has her funeral on the same day that ND plays Michigan so that he cannot attend the funeral.
4. News media catches wind of it, and makes it part of a heartfelt star football player story.
5. Teo lets the embellishment of her being his "girlfriend" carry on, even though they were only internet and phone acquaintances. He's also too embarrassed to admit that his relationship was purely online and he'd never met her in person (this is common among people who meet online).
6. Teo gets a call in December from Lennay, and is stunned. At some point in the next week, he probably figures out that he has been duped, but again, is way too embarrassed to admit it (not only to his family and friends, but the entire nation) and carries on the white lies to avoid embarrassment.
7. Teo tells ND, his coaches, and parents over Christmas.
8. ND does an investigation and realizes that Teo's been duped.
9. The Deadspin article comes out. While it is true in most respects, it's main source is Roniah (probably the leak wanting attention for his massive scam). Roniah also says he is "80% sure" that Teo was in on the scam.
10. I think the next revelation will be that Roniah is a bitter old HS classmate that desperately wants to be popular and in the limelight, so he went after people he knew who were becoming famous or were already famous (all Samoan football players).
