Oh, without a doubt he is. What I'm saying is that the absolute best case is that he is completely innocent and was duped by someone...that's how the best case would play out. Which would still be hilarious.
However, based on shite that he's said and his family has said, there is basically zero chance that he didn't know what was up. I mean, hasn't he said that he literally met her in person and shite like that? You don't meet someone who doesn't exist in person...it's impossible.
So there are all kinds of lies going around, and some of them fall onto MT's mouth. And, at worst, he's a liar and just a horrible person to do something like this on this grand a scale.

This seems like the most likely scenario IMO...that he drummed up a story as sort of a joke that he knew would get some coverage, and then it just blew up in his face.
The thing is...whatever the truth is, to save the most amount of face possible, MT needs to come clean and tell the truth. All of this "I was duped!" bullshite isn't gonna fly with people, especially the more and more details that come out. I mean, you can't say you were duped online and that you never met her when you've specifically said otherwise in the past. If you say you met her after a game, and then now say you never did, one of those is a lie.

it really is either one or the other. If it's the first, well it says tons about him as a person, a foul rather evil person...

the other question that I think HAS to be looked at is ummmm where were all the national sports media in all this???? You mean to tell me NBC and ESPN (mainly) didn't vet this entire story before going with the story??? They took him at his word?? they didn't attempt to contact ANYONE that supposedly knew Te'o and this girl?? They didn't search for obituaries?? Didn't look for any history of this woman??? IMHO It is their job to do so. If not, then are they just promoters of the sports/teams they pick and choose???

The only thing I can think of that makes any sense is he was getting catfished got suspicious at some point around the time she "dies". The grew increasingly embarrassed so he lied/let it drag on in order to buy time until he could go home for the Holidays to tell his parent and sort it out
I am willing to hear other plausible theories but him making it all up just isn't plausible.

ND has really helped this story with their defense of Te'o. They are going to have to retrench here shortly and either admit that they also lied to cover for him or that they are gulible people on the face of the earth.

He's not that stupid, but I'd bet that this will be fairly eye-opening to people 45/50 and older, who think that the internet is just some great thing that is only used for good.
To anyone younger than 45/50, nothing about this (from the angle of "the internet") is susprising in the least.
