This morning we illustrated how one ESPN blowhard will make up facts in order to argue for continuing a college football series lucrative for the WWL. Not to be outdone, Skip Bayless chimed in on the topic this morning on First Take, and somehow managed to get it even more wrong than Mark May.

LOL. Screamin A Smith is Flipping Skip off.

This is not an historical... Are you kidding me? I mean, I grew up, I couldn't wait for Michigan-Notre Dame, going back to Bubba Smith. - Skip

Two things here. First, Skip was 26 years old the first time he ever watched Michigan play Notre Dame. Second, he mentions the series "going back to Bubba Smith." Smith played college football in the 1960s, a decade during which Michigan never faced Notre Dame. Also, Bubba Smith played for Michigan State—not Michigan (or Notre Dame).

Yeah, we talked about it a bit in the ND-Mich ESPN thread. Thread is probably on the 2nd page by now.
It's pretty blatant how they're pissed about not being able to broadcast the game any longer. Maybe they shouldn't have taken such an active role in conference expansion.

'tis fricking glorious indeed

I can't have much doubt. I think it's a terrific rivalry. And when GameDay comes to town they know it's a big game, everybody knows it's a big game. Growing up in upstate New York, I used to watch it when I was growing up, when it was on television. - Mark May
quote:
Really, Mark? Notre Dame didn't play Michigan while you were growing up. In fact, the first time Notre Dame played Michigan in your lifetime, it was 1978. You were a sophomore offensive lineman for the Pitt Panthers, where presumably you weren't watching because you were on the field playing against Temple. You were playing against Kansas during the Notre Dame-Michigan game the next two years, so we're pretty sure the first time you ever watched Notre Dame play Michigan it was the day before you played in St. Louis against the Cardinals as a member of the Washington Redskins.

Nothing is more satisfying to me in sports media than Deadspin going in dry on ESPN. No lube allowed

SAS giving the free bird there.

Except that Deadspin is also dumb and linked the ratings to Notre Dame-Michigan State in that article. ESPN didn't even broadcast the game last year, it was on NBC.

Yeah but the ratings for this game illustrate why ESPN is spewing all kinds of bullshite about its "history" and what not and why they want to keep it.

They'd rather broadcast it every other year than never again. Their point stands.

ESPN made their bed by poaching Pitt and Syracuse for the ACC.
Them destabilizing the Big East lead to the ND-ACC partnership and, in turn, lead to lots of Big Ten matchups with ND going bye-bye.

Yep. That's what I was referring to in my first post in this thread.

Meh, don't really care either way. But if your going to blast someone for not fact-checking, you better make sure your shite's right.

What he was saying, is that their link is to the ratings for the Notre Dame/Michigan STATE game last year. Not the Notre Dame/Michigan game.
