They sue before its even published. With details.

The contents of that article may or may not be true. But the fact that Deadspin goes public with it based on just the word of a person who'd been fired by the company who may have an ax to grind and no corroborating evidence just proves how they are one of the main catalysts of the demise of journalistic integrity in the sports world.
This is what mainstream news outlets like SI, ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. have to compete with to break a story. The difference is that blogs can do this with reckless abandon and no accountability whatsoever. Can you imagine any real journalist going public with such inflammatory accusations that are this thinly sourced?
Like I said, it may be true and it may not be, that is irrelevant. It's TMZ sports reporting at its worst.

I agree with you, but I wouldn't put ESPN in that group. What SI does, and what the guys at Yahoo do, is totally different than what ESPN does.

Why does Erin Andrews still work at ESPN? I blame her

Deadspin breaks quite a few big stories, and they're not going to just throw around stories that they suspect is bullshite. I'm 99% that they broke the Roethlesburger rape story, while the ESPN (and I believe SI) sat on it for a few days. You can complain about Deadspin all you want, but they and PFT are breaking the mold and becoming significant players in sports media.
And I'm not sure comparing them to TMZ is the insult that you think it is. TMZ is fricking huge right now and very fast to break stories.

Can I get some simplified cliffs from someone?
I tried to read it myself but there were so many "this person who chose not to be nameds wife said this about this guy who works for this guy and whose friends with this guy" i couldnt keep up

Doesn't it say the lawsuit was filed before deadspin broke the story?
I was reading on my phone but I thought it said they spoke with the guy to confirm the story, the ESPN exec filed the suit THEN deadspin proceeded with publishing the story.

Deadspin breaks quite a few big stories
quote:Again, whether these stories are true is irrelevant. "Sitting on" stories that are potentially harmful to someone's life while you take the proper steps to gather as much confirmation as possible is called responsible journalism.

quote:Again, that's my point. They throw shite out there that is really inflammatory and it gets them attention. But they can do that and get it out quicker because they don't adhere to the same protocols that mainstream outlets do. Those are there for a reason: You sacrifice speed for safety and responsibility. But they drag everyone else down because they've gotta rush stories out there to compete--veracity be damned.

Yup. ESPN just trying to cover the spin ala Craig James
frick espn. I wish SVP didn't work for espn anymore. Versus is so much better now.
And fox sports/NBC has Dan Patrick
