We don’t know what happened with that situation.
You can look from the outside and have an opinion, but you really don’t know what happened.
People have been shitting on everything Crane does from the moment he was bought the team.

I think he had been a great owner up until demoting Reid and replacing him with his son as well as how this whole coach and GM search is gone (firmly believe we should let GM hire the coach)
He said he’d pay up for players once we got competitive and he lived up to his word. He has given extensions to current players as well as given the OK to trading for JV and Greinke
So up until 4 months ago I had zero issues with him...it’s just his recent actions that has soured that. Admittedly like you say, we haven’t seen the outcome yet

as how this whole coach and GM search is gone (firmly believe we should let GM hire the coach)
quote:
Crane’s interview process is “a three- or four-pronged approach,” incorporating the team’s baseball operations department and other executives. Crane does the “preliminary and clean-up” portions of the evaluation.
“I had 10,000 people at one time. I’ve interviewed a lot of people. I think I know how to do that. You can always get better at it,” said Crane, the shipping mogul who built a business empire before purchasing a baseball team.
“I’ve learned from a long time that you learn a lot if four or five people talk to a key candidate. You get a lot more information. That’s the way we’ve been doing it.”
Crane acknowledged Friday that his new manager will inherit “most of, if not all” of Hinch’s coaching staff. Crane declined to speculate Friday whether Espada’s candidacy is affected by his role on the 2018 team — one Major League Baseball determined stole signs electronically.
“As I said, internally or externally, we have some good candidates,” Crane said. “I just want to get a feel for what other managers are doing and their skillsets and go through their resumes.”
At the same time, Crane is fielding calls about his general manager vacancy. Candidates for that position will also come to Houston next week, Crane said, though there is less urgency to make an immediate hire.
“Because that department is so deep — and I’ve interviewed all those guys and they’re pretty coordinated in key positions — I think I can keep an eye on that until we get to the next one,” Crane said.
The front office baseball operations was a lot more than just Jeff Luhnow. And they are involved in the interview and hiring process of the next manager and GM.
Crane isn’t just acting like a stubborn owner and doing everything himself. He’s relying on the smart people in the front office to help him make the right choices. I’m telling you, Crane is doing it right. He’s a good executive.

The radio stations are going with it now, cautiously.

Two sources with knowledge of the situation say there's no confirmation that the Astros will hire Dusty Baker as their manager. @BNightengale reports Houston will choose Baker, the three-time Manager of the Year winner who has won more than 1,800 games

Gonna be even funnier now when we knock NYY out of the postseason
Posted on 1/28/20 at 10:27 am to 5 Deep
They will win a bunch of games this year still because Dusty has been handed a team with a shitload of talent, as has been the case throughout his career. People will give him BS credit for “righting the ship” as if he had some impact. We will see the GM hire but I’m not optimistic at all.

To be fair, winning a bunch of games is a preferable outcome
then you just hope we get lucky in postseason I guess
Posted on 1/28/20 at 10:33 am to 5 Deep
Yeah I’m more concerned about 3-4 years from now. Also Dusty was a pretty horrible in game postseason manager throughout his career.

Dusty Baker is a joke. His real presence will be felt in the postseason, the only time of the year where in-game managerial moves mean anything.
The Astros will a lot of regular-season games but they would have done that anyway. I can’t wait to see this board when Baker starts badly mismanaging the pitching staff, which will probably be in spring training.
As a lifelong Astros fan, I truly enjoyed the 2015-19 run. Those days are numbered and they just got shorter with this manager hire and the inevitable Bobby Evans hire that’s on the way.

Definitely a peace offering, but I'm certain we could do worse.
Who is the pitching coach gonna be?

Dusty Baker is in discussions with the #Astros about their managing position, sources tell The Athletic. No deal has been completed. Other candidates have not yet been informed. Baker is the Astros’ choice, per @BNightengale.
