What we're getting in Brantley

quote:

@Chandler_Rome
Michael Brantley was one of only three qualified major league hitters with a strikeout rate of less than 10 percent last season. Only Andrelton Simmons (7.3%) beat Brantley's 9.5%

quote:

@darenw
Michael Brantley swung at 1008 pitches last season and only missed 111 times. His 11% whiff rate was 3rd lowest in
@mlb
. Alex Bregman was 7th lowest.

quote:

Brantley will help balance out Houston's right-handed heavy lineup. The Astros had a .733 OPS against righthanders last season (13th in MLB) and a .803 OPS against lefties (best in MLB).

In the age of the strikeout, this is a very tough team to whiff..

Yuli 63K in 537 AB
Bregman 85K in 594 AB
Altuve 79K in 534 AB
Reddick 77K in 433 AB
Brantley 60K in 570 AB

Also, what are the Astros going to do about pitching?

Morton is gone.
McCullers is out for next season.
Keuchel is probably gone.

That only leaves Verlander and Cole from last year's rotation.

I guess Mike James slides in? McHugh is back in the rotation? Still need another guy or two.

18? U know something not being reported?

I would be fine with him startig in LF

The discussion is about how this affects the rest of the roster and Tucker

The Aggie brought up DH’ing

Go watch Rummel vs St Aug highlights from last year, dick breath

But like the Aggie said, if we can have Gattis as DH only, this is an upgrade for sure, but you would expect some defense for 16M per, I would think

Can we just have Gattis gone? or is he a clubhouse guy at this point?

I would be shocked if Gattis is back. I never said Brantley would be a full time DH, just think he will get 30-40 games there unless they make another move since they will probably rotate guys through there

Gattis is gone

I meant we used a roster spot for a true DH last year

I don’t think u pay 16M for that only with those numbers

Brantley's versatility and bat-to-ball ability greatly appealed to the Astros, who have a team full of those types. The plan is for him to rotate among left field, first base and DH. Top of the lineup is Springer, Brantley, Altuve, Bregman in almost any order, with Correa, too.

Looks like 53 games back in A and AA in 2007 and 2008

0.0 in the big leagues

Thx for looking it up

So, NO on the 1B thing

LF and DH

Me thinks it impossible that Reddick, Marisnick, Kemp, and Tucker can all be on the roster

Yeah, I would think Reddick and Kemp are odd men out.

Jake is way better defensively than the other 2, so he provides value when he’s not accidentally hitting HRs

Well, Tucker’s not getting moved for 1 year of Bumgarner, but could be in play for multiple years on other SP options.

I think with Chirinos, we are out of Realmuto discussion.

Sadly, I think you are right... i really like Kemp as a bench guy. But he could probably be an everyday player on a few teams. Reddick had a sour year... I think he bounces back. Not as good as ‘17, but not as bad as ‘18.

Going to miss Mrs. Kemp the most.

I like the Brantley move. Good value and excellent add to the lineup. Having Correa hitting between Bregman and Brantley is going to let him see a lot of fastballs.

There is no questioning Brantley as a professional hitter, and we needed a LH bat too.

Just curious what Luhnow’s big picture includes.

Lets send Reddick to Arizona for Greinke

Although 3 years at 35 mil per year is still a shite ton
