We had $55 million of wiggle room up to the tax. Abreu is reportedly getting $19.5.

2 years $39 million would have been perfect for Abreu. Hoping that 3rd year is an option with a buyout.

I don't regret Abreu's contract. I regret Lance's contract.

He will age better at 1B than anyone at any other position. I expect him to DH some with either or both of Yuli and Hensley playing 1B in those games

If no JV, that's still plenty enough for Contreras and Brantley. I love JV but I'd love that 1-8 even more.

It looks bad now because of his health issues. Lance is still capable of returning to what he was in 21 before the injury. I wouldn't bet on it but he is capable.

LMJ will never be in the playoff rotation (1-3) again

And if he is, this team’s not in the WS

Lance came back with a lower arm angle, making him a slider guy who was less nasty than when he was a curveball guy. Considering he still can't command the fastball for shite, he needs to go back to the drawing board.

The Houston Astros, who won the World Series just 23 days ago, managed to get even better Monday, signing veteran All-Star first baseman and former MVP Jose Abreu to a three-year contract worth about $58.5 million, two officials with direct knowledge of the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.

The Astros, who already have one of most powerful lineups in baseball, aren’t stopping now. They have also had talks with All-Star free agent catcher Willson Contreras, and internal discussions about the possibility of acquiring free agent outfielder Andrew Benintendi or Cody Bellinger.

The Astros have also reached out to former batting champion Yuli Gurriel in an attempt to retrain the free agent in a utility role.

Would rather Michael Conforto on a 1-year deal.
