Beltran. If Aoki sees time in the playoffs I hope it's because we're up 10 in the 9th

Jake Rogers is quietly becoming a decent catching prospect. We always have catchers rake in high-A but now that we aren't in Lancaster he might be more legit.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on him, at first i thought it was just a hit streak but he's now played almost as many games at high A as low A with a significantly better BA and it appears he's walking more 22 in 42 games

ETA: and he's supposed to be a really good defensive catcher

makes me think the front office had a talk with him during the break after 3 twitter flubs. Knock it off with the stupid tweets or don't have a twitter. Or at least spell your insults right

Nothing really groundbreaking but saw this on MLB trade rumors and wasn't sure if posted (I didn't see it)

quote:

In his weekly AL Notes column, Heyman reports that with few top starters left on the market, the Astros may instead pursue high-end bullpen help in an effort to shorten the game and load up the relief corps for the postseason. Unsurprisingly, their list of targets would include Zach Britton, if he’s available. (Most clubs in the league would perk up at the notion of acquiring a healthy Britton.)

I want another starter. 95% chance Morton ends up on the DL again, Peacock usually walks himself out of the game before the 6th inning, McHugh's health/effectiveness is anything but a certainty. Behind Keuchel and McCullers (who themselves aren't the models of health) we're made up of a bunch of back end starters.

Top flight bullpen alleviates that

I'm not saying bring back a former guy but trading for a pitcher like Dan Straily who would be relatively cheap for depth purposes. And use our better trade chips to bolster the pen.

If the top 2 in our rotation are healthy we have a shot. If we get a healthy grey for our number 3 in a 7 gamer I like our odds.

I'm of the opinion we need to go ahead and make a play for Sonny Gray.

That automatically strengthens the bullpen moving Peacock back to long relief and moving Devo to the later innings.

And damn, we need Gregerson to get right in the second half.

In my opinion, Gregerson hasn't really been THAT bad. He has given up 15 runs on the year and 11/15 came in 3 games

41/12 SO:W ratio
33 hits
1.32 whip
.248 BAA

Not awful

He also hasn't pitched that many meaningful innings since that 3 game stretch.

I bet his era the last month is solid. As long as his slider is on track the meaningful vs not means little to me. When his slider is on it doesn't matter if he pitches in the 5th or 9th, I feel confident.

Yes, I agree

It would be akin to Qualls vs White Sox

But he has looked good here lately
