We'll have an answer in 2 or 3 years. Maybe.

There was mention of it the other day, but figured it’d be a good all star break discussion
At what point do we need to do a complete overhaul of our medical staff and/or their methods? I’m not blaming them for our players get hurt, because I don’t necessarily think they’re at fault for that.
I’m more concerned about the rehab process. It has become WAY too common for one of our players that are on the IL to have a setback and end up being out longer than anticipated
I will say part of that could be how terrible the organization is at disclosing what type of injuries our players suffer. Specifically using Tucker as an example…we have no clue the details of his injury. So him taking forever to return may not be on the medical staff.
However it does seem like a lot of our pitchers suffer some sort of setback while rehabbing and it’s getting really fricking old. We’ve been getting told for like 9 months that getting Lance and Garcia back around the deadline would be like adding 2 new arms. Of course nobody bought that shite about Lance but between Garcia having more problems and whatever the frick is going on with JV, it seems like it’s something that needs to be addressed

I think this is the issue. What’s really strange though is they’ve been doing this throughout the different owner/gm/manager regimes. I’m not sure if it’s to avoid tipping their hand re possible trades? I know every guy’s recovery time varies, but I think they tend to be overly optimistic in most cases. I know Garcia is a young guy but I had serious doubts about his projected comeback when it is taking a lot of guys two years to make it back.

Yep. And don’t forget the Brantley nonsense from last year as well. That one really pissed me off because I think we needed an OF bat, yet they kept insisting Uncle Mike was coming…which he did but not until late and in a very limited role. I fear this may be happening with JV too and they will hesitate going after an arm with the expectation that he will be back soon.

Thread hi-jack: Do we think Skenes will get a start when the Pirates come to town in 2 weeks?
I have circled the series on the calendar and want to go if he is on the bump.

Depends on where they line him up this weekend. Yesterday would have been his usual 5th day start. If they wanted to keep him on that 5 day schedule, he'd start on Sunday. If that happens he would pitch the Saturday before our Monday to Wednesday series and the Friday after it.
But if they start him Friday or Saturday, he would start in our series.

Would be awesome to see him in person but would also be great from the Astros perspective to miss him. Guess it’s a win/win

Just out of curiosity, and I know most including myself would not want to deal for either considering the price would be high, but would yall prefer Vladdy or Pete if we made a big trade for a 1B?
Eta this is really just a hypothetical cause I don’t see the Mets being sellers at this point unless they implode over the next 2 weeks

Vladdy or Pete
Neither
I don't feel like this organization has any expendable pieces that are of any realistic value that would fetch those guys
Any piece that would, we need

There’s depth in the OF prospects and some others have made strides. If they really wanted Vladdy or Alonso they could make it happen with prospects I think, especially Alonso. I’m of the opinion that’s not a good idea, but I think they could do it.

It's simple really. If Crane wants Vlad, he will make it happen.
Posted on 7/17/24 at 4:02 pm to Jwho77
It’s easy to see him pulling that card again for Vlad or Alonso
Posted on 7/17/24 at 4:24 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Yeah it’s a total Crane move
Which is why I asked the question
Disregarding everything about potential price and all of that, curious if there’s a consensus on who people think is better between Vladdy and Pete

Pete Alonso: 411PA .240/.319/.454/.772 21 doubles 19HR 51RBI 37 walks 85K
Singleton as 1B: 224PA .250/.348/.380/.728 4 doubles 7HR 28RBI 30 walks 63K
There's no doubt Alonso is more likely to deliver a big hit that can change a fame. One swing can make the difference in a post season series. He's more likely to do it than Big Jon.
I guess on an Alonso trade you're putting chips in that he can deliver one of those swings in the post season. But as far as the regular season goes, it's not a wild production gap between them when considering the price it would likely cost us to acquire him.
