DAT 9/18. Astros (Lambert) vs Barves (Mahle) 7:10

Well it happened one more time. The good ol boys had us all throwing in the towel Wednesday (again) just to reel us back in on Thursday (again), testing our patience along the way. But the loyal DAT'ers were rewarded their "never say die" attitude. We had em all the way.
It was definitely a party up in herr after the emphatic win
And we got unexpected help from the beloved Red Sox and Trevor Story. The Astros took back a division lead which is rightfully theirs, saw the Rangers do Ranger things, and no doubt started a run that will send us blazing into the postseason
Of course it would be Ethan Pecko, unheard of to us mere mortals a month ago, who would step up and shut the door on the Royals and bring us closer to the promised land
The ATL is a little better than KC. The challenge will be steeper. But it is time to go chase glory. Let's go get em Astros!

Oh Canada! Let’s go Blue Jays!

Its obvious no legitimate GM candidate would want this hou job.

Definitely the hero we needed but did not deserve.

Beyond the mess at GM, I have a real fear of sleepy joe continuing to “lead” this team next year.

The only way that happens is if they go on some crazy run in my opinion

The feeling on this board is that we want to win the division. I am not in that majority. Not because I don't like winning, but because I don't want Crane to have any excuse to run it back with the same guys and staff
Any signs of life would allow Crane to do that. We know this
Now, maybe we win the division and get embarrassed in the WC and that is enough to make some swift changes with staff and salaries. Who knows

They won a World Series and effectively fired the GM

Yeah, but that was more to do with personal differences than performance. Crane's ego, blah blah blah
Crane and Bagwell are indeed stupid enough to run it back with this crew if they see any ounce of life

Believe what your heart wants you to believe. I think it is pretty obvious Crane told Espada during that meeting before the NY series he wasn’t getting an extension and it was up to him whether he wanted to finish out the year.

Crane is going to frick it up regardless so I'd say lets just root for this team to win.

Crane didn’t care for Luhnow getting all the credit. I honestly think he’s more satisfied losing in the playoffs as long as it’s his team
It started with Reid. And at this point every significant position is held by his cronies or completely neutered
And who knows, maybe we don’t win in ‘22 without his insistence on being in charge. One thing not debatable is that he is the owner and can do whatever he wants. I’m personally satisfied with his reluctance to give long term contracts to aging players in the present market with the existing agreement b/w MLB and the Union.

Agreed. It would be a hard sell to get a good GM and stick him with Espada unless that GM is actually bagwell or another unqualified yes man just glad to get the GM title.

I don’t think there is any way they give Bagwell the actual GM title. I’m not sure why he would do it. He gets to play GM when he feels like it without any of the daily grind or accountability associated with the job.

run it back
Rome (I know, I know) was basically saying on the crush city podcast re the GM job that Pena is gone Tucker style this offseason. I guess that’s pending the lockout and whatever results, but to me that signals they know the current core is done no matter what happens this season.

I hope you are wrong. Shitty division aside, the Astros win totals have gone this way since 2020:
106
90
88
87
Likely 82-84-ish this year.
It doesn't take us crunching numbers or executives looking at baseball cards to see that the decline is pretty steady.
There are exceptional parts to build around, but there are a LOT of flaws. Winning the Special Olympics division shouldn't mask this.
