Had to keep up with the at-bat app last night.
Close one again but scrapping out a series win would be nice here.

It still kills me that we hit into 6 double plays last night. You would think after the first 3 that hinch would start using some bunting or hit and run strategies. But that totally goes against the offensive analytical binder he uses. Bombs or bust.
Thankfully our pitching was good enough last night and fortunately yuli’s almost double play ball up the middle had eyes.
On a related note, we criticize the offense a lot and I still think rightfully so on most occasions. But going strictly by our 1-run wins and losses record (17-22) and our blown saves (at last count was 16). It shows the offense handed a lead to a closer that could have amounted to a much better record right now and a much more comfortable lead in the division even if we had managed to succeed in finishing half of those situations.
It just goes to show that despite a lot of pretty good individual numbers in our bullpen, no one has been truly worthy or reliable enough to hold the designation of closer with the most important stat number being saves.

16 isn’t really that many, bout middle of the pack I believe
ETA: A’s have fewest with 11
Giants have most with 26

He didn’t look like shite, so we got that going for us

Was he moving well? Any issues with the extremeties? Chasing any sliders away?

I agree that the lack of a legitimate closer and the shifting roles in the bullpen has been an issue. However, and understand that I'm going purely from memory here, it seems that most of the blown saves occurred in games that were 3-2 or 2-1. In other words, I think that it's still an offensive problem in the team's lack of ability to score runs, especially against below average starters.

I'd just like to personally thank Framber Valdez for making it worth staying up past midnight last night

We blew 5 run Lead against the Rangers at home. A 5 run Lead against Cleveland on the road. A 3 run Lead against the Yankees at home.... Many examples of abject failure.

Altuve squared one up, hit it where it was pitched, the other way, and lined out to Gordon, who was positioned back and slightly to the right of second.
On cue, his tongue came out and licked his chin.
He's gonna be fine.

Was he running full Speed?

He looked like Altuve.
Swung at the first 3 pitches he saw.
He did work a walk that included not chasing a 3-2 pitch.
On his good contact AB, he never really had a chance to get out of the box and was still holding the bat just outside of it when it was caught.

What’s crazy about the double plays is this..
We have a team 41.7 GB% which is 23rd in mlb
