No wow from me. This is nothing new for Angelos. Also crane has been in business long enough to know a deal is not a deal until the ink is on the paper.

This was my reaction too. You could tell by listening to both Crane and Luhnow that the day did not go as expected and they were trying to put window dressing on a shitty day.

Today all the talking heads are crucifying Luhnow & Co. I think Crane is just opening up and letting people know that the shitty day wasn't exactly from not trying. It sounds to me like they had a number of deals ready to complete and at the last minute the trading partners try to gouge them for one of the "untouchable" guys. Luhnow gave them the middle finger instead of giving them the talent.

I can see this current team following that awesome Mariners team... coast into the playoffs and get bounced early. There just isn't enough play-off ready arms on staff right now. Hopefully that can get everyone healthy and get them dominant at the right time.

This may be the most least surprising comment from you I've seen on this site.

As a business owner myself, I can agree with your principle statement here. But, I also have negotiated enough deals to know that when both sides verbally agree on a deal, you expect your trading partner to follow through in good faith.

Maybe Luhnow & Co. *knew* that the deal had to be approved by Angelos... maybe they expected the Orioles GM to have the same authority to approve trades that Luhnow appears to have. Either way, I don't see Crane or Luhnow bitching and whining... I just see them as saying, "look, we followed the process far enough down the road to exchange and approve physicals. we had every indication it was a done deal." If that's the case, I can understand them backing off on other talent, thinking that they got their guy(s).

It is was it is.

Ive come to terms that this is the team we have. We got a loogy and upgraded our offense (Fisher for Aoki) in one trade. Im on to cincinnati.

Keep working Martes.

Devo
Peacock
Harris
Giles

is good enough if we dont have to throw their arms off to get there.

Yep.

We can have enough good arms for the playoffs if Keuchel and Harris come back 100% and sharp by then. Conservatively, you have to count LMJ as a wildcard and not an expected contributor at this point.

New McHugh needs to keep building stamina because he could be crucial with his new slider. Peacock and Fiers need to maintain their reborn forms. Morton just has to stay healthy.

I still hold out hope Gregerson finds himself. Liriano must at least be a capable LOOGY with anything more as an added bonus. Maybe an unexpected hero like Armenteros gets a shot to help in the pen.

Clearly, Devo and Giles will have to get big outs late in big games.

Peacock

He is going to be the most important arm for the Astros playoff games, in my opinion.

Most trusted arm in the pen IMO.

Frankly Im almost inclined to get him back in the pen right now to get him back in relief mode and maximize his value and let Liriano start while Lance is on the DL.

He is a starter now. You won't see Lance mccullers on the mound for at least a month

This dude is a rental with a questionable shoulder. Just need to play it smart and keep him healthy for the pen in October IMO. This is a New Hope, and he's the Obi Wan Kenobi of Astros lefty relievers.

Yeah my thinking is as great as peacock has been his pitch count gets high and regardless of performance isnt eating a ton more innings as a starter than liriano. If hes in the pen then we cut down on our devo usage and blown leads with peacock ready to go in the pen
