It was discussed ad nauseum this year. Maybe a tad bit premature, but here nonetheless
Many of the best teams in the league are going through slumps right now with the ebbs and flows of a full season (dog days of Aug), but I think if you're a true student of this game with even a blind eye, you can see this does not apply to this team presently
Dana needs to do the thing. Be a leader. Channel his inner Luhnow.
This move would be still far easier than what Luhnow did and can keep this team competitive.

This team is starting Zach Short, Taylor Trammel, and Cooper Hummel most nights. You don’t have to pat yourself on the back too hard.

One baseball guy I follow has theorized fans love the idea of a sell off or rebuild because it confirms the normal fan thought their favorite’s team front office sucks and has failed. This thread is a screaming endorsement of that theory most days IMO

I was thinking through something similar last night after the let down of one of the worst losses of the year and how it got to this point.
It's fun to bang on the FO, but they clearly had a plan in the offseason and executed and put a pretty damn good team on the field until injuries just became too overwhelming. The chest thumping told you so about this team being actually bad the whole time after having to run out what they've had to run out due to injury the past two + weeks is weird to me.
I'm frustrated that Dana has sat on this roster since the All Star break but I'm also not foolish enough to think he's sitting there doing nothing. It takes two to make a trade, can't imagine what hang ups are ran into in any discussion he can have. Plus, for better or for worse they have a budge their boss wants them to work with that might constrain what they are trying to do.

I think it’s a mix of that + some people enjoy the business of a rebuild more than staying in winning times because they’re bored.

The longer Dana waits, the more he has to give up. There have been glaring issues in this lineup for weeks now
They knew in the offseason we needed a LH bat and did nothing about it

Yupe. It felt pretty obvious going into the All Star break even before Isaac’s injury that they probably needed to add a MLB guy ASAP. That’s what leads me to the budgeting issue and maybe the instruction is we aren’t going over the tax for micro transactions like an Adam Frazier or Randall Grichuk which puts Dana in an even tougher position.
It’s easy to spend Crane’s money and pay all the taxes, but during mid-June when you could tell healthy this team was pretty good and they were going to be without Yordan for a while to get aggressive and maybe push that LH bat button but oh well they didn’t.

Steven Kwan may be available. Shut up and take my non prospects.

I'm conflicted on all sorts of fronts, but narrowing down to just baseball, I've accepted Sabremetrics over the old school. Definite paradigm shift.
Ted Williams had it right early on obviously, but his team never won a championship. Pull for power worked for him. He could care less about defense or anything really, other than himself. I've been a student of his life.
I am a fan of the team and its accomplishments. Individual awards are nice, and I can appreciate them and that particular player's talents, but that means very little to me if it doesn't result in a win for my team. Guys that chase contracts with little to no interests in winning are just not worth my attention.
I want to see the Astros do whatever it takes to win. Luhnow did it. Crane hasn't been reckless like other owners and kept this team competitive. Hell no, I didn't want a rebuild, but the present landscape does not favor paying market value for talent that will get injured or stop playing once they cash in.
Of course the present situation sucks to be in, but it's gonna take a bold move to be right this time. I think Dana and Crane have been very reasonable to this point. I hope they don't cave in to PR bullshite and do what is necessary.

They are very clearly not going to be selling. I’m not sure how one could think this would be the path they would take

The thing that will piss me off the most is when Dana says that getting these guys back from injury is the equivalent to trading for players when it’s most certainly not

If tweet fails to load, click here. I was waiting for this to come back around after the Isaac news. Its not shocking given they had a deal done, you're not starting from scratch on discussions.
But. Gross.

He's completely washed. We don't need another Christian Walker in the lineup.

Only way I am okay with it is if Walker is going the other way, which seems unlikely

I don't think they will.
They will do what is best for the bottom dollar and milk whatever they can out of all the poor souls that will allow them to do it, because it's a business
But you see, for some of us, it's a religion.
And we're just trying to get to Heaven
