Our bullpen sucks arse. At this point, even though I want us to trade for a good starting pitcher, I'd still rather us trade for a minimum of 2 relief pitchers. We have way too many terrible bullpen arms we cannot rely upon come playoff time.

That 15.5 game lead tho

And that's why Luhnow is sitting on his arse.

I understand, but it's frustrating to watch these games.

The only bright spot that can possibly come out of this one is Luhnow becoming painfully aware of our bullpen lefty shortcomings.

I'm actually not even mad. Throw Sipp to the wolves man.. Hinch can only play who he has. Keep showing JL that change is needed.

The game was winnable early and late. Still a good team, but this cannot happen in October.

There's major issues in the bullpen.

We've got 3 guys in Gregerson, Sipp and Feliz that can't pitch in high leverage spots.

We've got an overtaxed Devo and injured Harris who are our dependable arms

And the shakiest closer in the American League.

Bullpen help is a must.

Yes make a deal, any deal, right now!

There is zero chance Sipp is pitching meaningful innings in October

I know you don't mean it.

2 blown saves. 22 AL pitchers with 2 or more.

But he did get away with a hanging slider that was jerked just foul.

Britton, Brach and O'Day from the O's will be up for bid.

Reed with the Mets.

Hand in San Diego.

Kahnle with the White Sox.

There are many more. Tonight was a reminder about what are weakest spot really is.

I didn't say he was bad. He's just shaky. I'm hesitant to trust him.

Pitching blew it.

What a great effort by the Astros offense.

AND f*ck whoever said the only way we can score is if they put up bumpers.

We scored 7 runs in the first eight innings tonight you f*cking dumbass.

People seem to forget Marwin was absolutely robbed of a base hit that could have won the game. Like top play on Sportscenter throw from sitting down robbed

Hey our starting pitching isn't helping the pen either. The biggest issue is that our bullpen isn't rested.

Until Fiers threw 7 the other night, it had been a month since we had a starter go 7.

Giles rises or falls to the moment IMO. In the 9th close game he is locked in MOST of the time. Outside of save situations or 3 run "saves" he's too loose.. I know it's a cop out on the "non save" thing but just off his demeanor you can tell it's a real phenomenon with Giles. I'm fine with him being an eighth guy or mobile shut down guy bs the heart of an order if we get a Britton etc but he's been very good for us after the first month last year

If we can snag two guys on the level of Britton and Wilson, we can move Devo into the fireman role in which he thrives. When he is used too much (like the past few days in short spurts), he is less effective. Peacock can also be a multi-inning fireman.

We're just as likely to get 5-6 good innings out of Fiers or a healthy McHugh as any dude we could likely get in a trade. It's the innings after that which are clearly the issue against playoff-caliber teams. Seattle has a playoff-level offense, for example.

Greg is busted, Sipp is trash, Devo totally missed his spot and ended up with a shite pitch.

I think it's important to mention what effect our short lived starters are having on the bullpen. Mike Fiers is the only starter to complete 7 innings over the last month. They're running up the odometer on the pen. Remember in the early going, our bullpen outside of 1 or 2 guys was great.

Let's say we're in October in the 7th inning of a tie game. Who the hell can you trust?

Harris
Feliz
Devo
Sipp
Gregs
Hoyt
Giles

Harris and Devo? Honestly we may need more than just a lefty reliever. We need another trust worthy bullpen arm.

We're in some shite with the pitching either way.

If Jabroni can't last the season into the playoffs or if Chuck goes down again, we're in a real bind.

I'd still look at a starter and a reliever on the trade market.
